This was my second visit to the ring..

Most importantly, everyone in my group of four (First there was going to be six, then there was going to be five but only four turned up, as Mr five got caught in London on business till 11pm friday night!) went to the Ring and got back to england with both themselves and their cars in one piece.

Following discussions on another forum about cars being confiscated in Belgium for speeding, we travelled in both directions sticking to speed limits within 25/30 km/h. Crikey it was boring. I remember the good old days on the continent.....

Arrived friday 5.20pm dropped stuff at the Dorint hotel and got to the ring for a few laps on the friday evening session. The weather was great for both this session and the rest of the weekend. Had loads of beers in the hotel bar, murdered a steak and decided to go for further sampling of the german brewing industry in the village so headed for the Fuchsrohre pub in the Village.

Later on, I introduced myself to the british "Ring Guru" Mr Ben Lovejoy, creator of the most complete ringsite on the net. We ended up joining him and another guy (Gixxer 1000 rider) for further beers. I think Ben must have regretted mixing coca cola with his beer as he left the pub before the rest of us!

On saturday after a few early morning laps I decided that although Bitburger lager doesn't give you a headache, the following morning you can still feel sick sliding around the ring. Much to the amusement of my younger brother who was driving his first lap in my car, as exiting Kallenhard I notified him of my self imposed predicament. He still believes it was my drinking rather than his driving, I'm not saying anything

On taking a break from the ring at lunctime we went up to Breidsheid to do some viewing. At this point I realised as drivers, we have an obligation to entertain the crowd with low gears, high revs and tyre squeal!!!

More laps ensued and the time came to go and find Sliders guesthouse (Last minute change of accomodation caused by language cock up by the big hotel next to the F1 circuit (The owners of the guesthouse are active on a discussion forum I sometimes frequent (A lot less than pistonheads)).

Sliders was a real find, great value, great hosts (english and american), no language problems,a large screen TV for plugging the camcorder into and a 24 hour self service bar facility.

We went to the Fuchrorhe pub for dinner and when we arrived the place was packed. We decided to prop the bar up and when asked what time the kitchens closed Sabine (the owner and Ring Taxi driver) told us that we could order food at 1am if thats how long it took to get a table. A superb way to run a pub. An interesting night for me as I was driving and on the soft drinks. Having eaten we left the pub and returned to Sliders for beers, Ring lap videos and putting the world to right into the early hours.

Sunday involved more laps and viewing and lunch at Breidsheid. After a temporary closure at about 1.30ish we decided to make an early dash for england.

Hope to be back there a few times next year.

PS1 it was nice driving the Porsche and feeling that you were driving something a little more exclusive than a red fiat!!....There was a Ferrari meet at the F1 circuit. I saw 2 F50's, 4 550 barchettas, a couple of F40's and the rest of their stuff was littering the place like confetti. Bloody incredible.

PS2 Does anyone know the german for "the fillet steak with no sauce", will ease restaurant negotiations for my brother on future visits.

Try: "Ein Filet-Steak ohne Sauce, bitte" and "blutig/medium/durch" next time. That might help to get the right food

Nice to read!
Let PH know, when you're driving next time! I'm sure others will follow/join/meet up at the Ring!

I take it Johnny Rocket wasn't handed the keys as well, then?

No one else, just the younger brother.

cheers Bodo.

so "ohne" means without then?

I'd mentioned on a few posts I'd going but never did a dedicated post announcing my trip. Will definitely do that next time as there may be other PHers already going.

Indeed, "ohne" means "without"; the rest is quite similar, as you've surely noticed.

I'd be interested to know, when PHers meet at the Ring, because Frankfurt is only 100mls distance to the Ring. Maybe we could substitute a Pie on the Ring next spring!?

Hey Moonie

I think she quite deservedly has a large enough fan club as it is.
