Over in biker banter the its been posted that the American Impreza posted a 113mph average, up from the old Rover 827's 102mph average 20 years ago.

What would you choose as a contender to go fastest know knowing thats how the Impreza did?

My money would be on something like a 997 Turbo or GTR with suitable modifications, so you get the higher top speeds like the bike but retain the 4 wheel drive like the Impreza.

Elaborate, a classic mini could be a hill climb car as could anything else.

a single seater type hill climb car, the quickest ones you know, like this:

I think it'd be quick.

and and just to pre-empt about 10 pages of arguing, a bike would also be quicker than the impreza smile

but not as quick as a suitable single seater.

the trouble with most rally type cars is that they don't have the top speed for the course, which is 180mph plus for long sections on the bikes... this is why a single seater would be best.

The thing with racing is that performance must be within the rules.

The TT bike races allow 2 wheels for solos and 3 wheels for sidecars.

You don't subscribe to what most of the bikers say - that its to bumpy for single seater and cars with ground effect aerodynamics?

I admit I'd be suprised if a single seat race car would have that much trouble as the side cars don't don't have many issues. Infact they go as fast as the Impreza did.

I ride a bike and I believe that a well set-up Pilbeam hillclimb car with a powerful V8 engine would be very fast around the IOM.

I'd rather commute on a bike though wink

i don;t think the bumps are an issue and look at cadwell park - bikes take off over the mountain but most cars don't.
