18,000 miles out of warranty.... Its pretty brutal, but out of warranty is out of warranty. I've had my haldex pump go twice on my TTS.. First time within warranty, Audi replaced, second time out of warranty, I get a £600 bill. As unfortunate as your bill is, if its that far out of warranty I'd be surprised if you managed to get them to change their tune, no matter the method of publicity you give this.

Looks like Audi responded to you an hour before you posted this?

Is it a known fault (like you had previously with the TFSi engine?)

If it is unique to this car then I think the best you can hope for is a discount - you're never going to get that paid for FOC in my opinion. It's a £50k car, it's going to have some expensive services.

Have you looked at getting the work done by a trusted specialist outside of Audi? Likely to save £££ but shouldn't affect the value of the car - unless you sell it to a retard that expects Full Audi Service History. I assume it had main dealer Service History when you bought it too, look how that's worked in your favour!

VAG cars aren't built for longevity anymore.

Surely you bought it from a dealer should still be under warranty.

i would have taken it to vw midland for a price as well.

How the hell does a new seal cost £2000 and take 5 days? I know modern franchises are next to useless for technical issues, and resort to replacing parts they could repair, but that seems to be taking the absolute piss!

tl;dr - OP buys a TTRS with full audi service histoty, but is out of warranty by 18k, a service after 4 months ownership lands him with a bill for £2000 for a gearbox oil leak.

Was wondering that. Used car warranties are usually 12 months aren't they?

Audi has already once waived a large bill for a non-warranty repair for you - why would that happen again?

The car is out of warranty - it's your responsibility to repair it. I'm sure you font want to pay £2000, but that alone doesn't mean someone else owes you it.

Surely if you want the security of a manufacturers warranty you buy a car with one, if you'd rather use your budget on a 'better' car then you should accept the associated risks.

OP, can you clarify:

  • Where did you buy it from (private, trade, main Audi dealer)
  • How old is it?
  • How many miles has it now done?

I had this fault on my rs3 under warranty replaced, but they still pulled the ecu to see if it had been tampered with which it hadn't under instruction from Audi uk, I think there's been a major clamp down on warranty/ goodwill claims.
Op does your car have full uninterrupted Audi history? if it has I'd be asking for some contribution towards repair

Why are you 'losing faith' in the Audi brand just because your gearbox has developed a fault? It's way out of warranty so for me seems a no brainer.. you either get super lucky and they contribute to the costs or you have to fork out for it. That's part and parcel of having a car outside warranty.

What is it - rear main oil seal? That's a wear and tear item by anyone's book.

Eighteen thousand miles out of warranty. 18k. Why the expectation for Audi to repair a broken seal? Cars are complex machines. They go wrong. I do not understand the approach at all.

If it helps an independant should be able to split the box (drop it out most likely) for a lot less than £2k.
