Cars where the heart says 'yes' but the head says 'hell no'
Discussion
For me it was the 8 series, specifically the 850i as it was a big deal when released. Massive engine in BMW's best design imo.
V12s were few and far between especially wrapped in such a striking exterior, and Mercedes were yet to release their 400hp monster in their W140 panzer vehicle.
I still want to drive one at the very least, but as an ownership prospect I'm scared of them

There is one badged as an Alpina B12 that lives near me, not sure if it is a real Alpina though, certainly looks the part. Really would like to drive it one day!V12s were few and far between especially wrapped in such a striking exterior, and Mercedes were yet to release their 400hp monster in their W140 panzer vehicle.

I've been put off a variety of older Alfas all due to their reputation for rust and perpetual problems.

Don't touch one of those things with a barge pole; unless you have VERY deep pockets, find it funny to be locked out by the vehicles security system, don't mind the thing refusing to start because there is interference with the fob signal. I could go on and on. Just noooooooooooo. Oh and own your own oil well.Actus Reus said:

These both appeal and frighten in equal measure
In stark contrast I've just taken delivery of an A4 Avant diesel as a daily. A car where the heart says 'no', but the head says 'yes'.A few years ago I went for a test drive in a DB9. I wasn't serious, just having a look.
I will never forget the feeling as I drove around the first bend. I was in love.
Fortunately, I completely ignored my head (and my wife) and 6 weeks later, there was one on the drive.
Best decision that I ever made.

Shed level Alfa 156s with Selespeed.
I just know they wouldn't even make it home
Sillyspeed is an automatic no for me, supposedly they arent even that bad to drive, but if anything goes pop, you'll be cheaper off buying a new car then fixing the gearbox...I just know they wouldn't even make it home
In the same vein, I'd LOVE a v6 powered GTV, particularly the 2.0 V6 turbo appeals, but these are OLD cars by now, and had some more bespoke parts then the regular hatch/saloon alfas from the era, so are more dear to maintain. My heart says "OMFG YES!!!", the wallet sits whimpering in a corner crying "make it stop"
Im similarly scared of the 147 GTA, but somehow i think that would be worth it/less desastrous

I also have an A4 Avant (of sorts). The head is still saying 'yes', but the last service bill gave it something to think about. The likes of that or M-cars are about as far as I like to push myself in the scary department
A few years of Porsches and I fully understand those thoughts. A leased Golf R just didn't deliver the compromise I was hoping for, and a weekend MX5 is all well and good, but a Lotus Elise is just so tempting. Nothing quite as scary as 90's Italian performance cars though.
