Supercar Parade hits London

Get to the Mall on Friday Morning

St James's Square in London will be the location for one of the biggest parades of Supercars the streets of London has ever seen. Marking the start of the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy Weekend (the British round of the FIA GT Championship), some of the world's most powerful, fastest and spectacular road cars could bring central London to a standstill.

The parade of over 30 cars will include a police escort, with motorcycle outriders ensuring smooth passage of these supreme vehicles as they begin their journey down Pall Mall at 10am before heading North West to Silverstone. Their destination will be the Silverstone Supercar Showdown weekend which has the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy Race as its showcase event.

Before heading out of London, the lead car will stop outside the Royal Automobile Club, Pall Mall to pick up Stephen Hammerton, Chairman of the Club Motoring Committee. Stephen will be responsible for bringing the coveted Tourist Trophy to Silverstone, 101 years after it was first awarded.

Several high performance Maseratis and AMG Mercedes, plus Ferraris, Aston Martins, Bentleys, Porsches, Jaguars and TVRs as well as an Ascari, Lotus and Morgan Aero 8 will make-up the convoy.

Over 6th and 7th May, Silverstone's Grand Prix circuit will play host to the world's motoring elite, from Aston Martin to Ferrari and Porsche to Maserati and many more, in a weekend spectacular of races and special events.

The showpiece of the weekend will be the first round of the FIA GT Championship, with the prestigious Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy awarded to the winner.

The Tourist Trophy is one of motor racing's most historic awards and, following its centenary revival in 2005, it is set to continue lighting up the world of 21st century motor sports. Fans will be trackside to see the battle of the titans and cheer the heroes who will ultimately win the coveted trophy, joining past victors such as Sir Stirling Moss and Graham Hill.

I'm in London this friday, will make the effort to get there i think

I think the list is of cars that are eligible to enter the run, i dont think it necessarily means that all the cars listed will be there. I certainly hope the Speed 12 is there, has been a while since I've seen it....

Participants will assemble in Central London, meet for breakfast at the prestigious Royal Automobile
Club in Pall Mall and drive a non-motorway route with refreshments stop and photo-calls arriving at
the world famous Silverstone Circuit early afternoon, after an 80 mile run, for a lap of the Grand Prix
circuit formally opening the weekend’s activities.

How come this only appeared as a "news" item after the closing date? Or has it appeared before and I missed it.. (not that the Chimaera made it onto the list!

Yay! My 2 minutes of fame - I'll be there in the Blue Tuscan - very excited about it too!!! I've only just got the Tuscan back from it's 1000 mile service, so a first proper opportunity for a decent run!

Can't wait to see the Speed 12 - somehow I think it'll make me feel a bit insignificant!!!

Richard.

Suprising that, considering that's where the RAC head office seems to be based.

Oh ... and it's also the capital city!

Isn't it the RAC club rather than the breakdown service though? I think they're no longer associated.. at least not much. Breakdown policyholders certainly don't get access to the club! (unfortunately)

London has plenty to offer. Just look at these facts*

1.) We have a congestion charge of £8
2.) We have one of the highest number of convertibles per person in Europe
...and the least amount of sun which leads me on to..
3.) "Research has shown that, on average, in the UK it only rains hard on 12 commuting days per year" **

* Some of which are from memory
** Was this carried out during July and then multiplyed by 12 ?
and notice how they don't mention snow /hurricans/tornados !

heard about it around 5 weeks ago when sorting our club tickets for the race day, at first they had a much harder to fill 'wanted' list, but looks like they became less fussy at the end to fill slots.

One of our viper guys is using his Bently GT tie and jacket needed for breakfast planned photo stops en route and 11'is, a couple of laps of Silverstone, supercar infield parking for the weekend, think it was about £250
