Yeah I'm under no illusions as to how bad Jap interiors can be, though considering my Dad has a history of Lada's and I learnt to drive in an Uno, my aspirations are set rather low. My current Stilo does have the modern touch of soft plastics but counters this with the classic creaks and rattles normally associated with the Italian brand
A mate's Mrs has a hawk-eye WRX and it's really solid with fair miles and around 4 years under the belt. I'd just prefer the added rawness and looks of the original even if Action Man plastics and tinfoil panels are supplied as standard Would like an STi for the uprated parts but don't think my hypothetical budget would quite stretch to it. More in-depth investigations need to be made It's the sound of the flat-four that really does it for me. I've loved it since the first time I heard them in the early 90's when I watched McRae hurling a Legacy (which I also wouldn't mind) around/over/through various British forests
I've had the journalistic dream for a few years. Trouble is my degree included journalism but wasn't specifically geared to that area. Coupled with a lack of hands-on experience in the field, my chances of writing for a magazine or newspaper of any quality or distribution are somewhat negligible at best. Always up for improving my skills and I do try my utmost on the mechanical side but unfortunately this practical side of me is still somewhat lacking. This is when mate's rates come in handy
The biggest suprise will be how it sounds starting up if you've never heard one, it sounds like an ancient diesel spluttering into life but settles nicely after that a very raw sound on start up... The exhaust note as standard is nice, theres no mistaking it for anything else.A mate's Mrs has a hawk-eye WRX and it's really solid with fair miles and around 4 years under the belt. I've heard its fairly easy and cheap to get upto 260bhp from the 2.0 turbo thats what the old mans looking at doing, the airbox is extremely restrictive for a start, it loops through the front wing feeding from the front left headlight (looking at it from the front, so drivers headlight) for some reason, alot change the clutch for a group N job too. The cloth seems the same as in an accord type R in the pattern and texture, the front seats are very firm and snug, the backs are very soft and comfortable.
I think he paid about 2300 for his which had clean bodywork but later found a small amount of rust under the boot lining, fairly low mileage for age mid 80k.
Ahh got to love mates rates! I always thought it would be the best thing in the world to write about cars, having grown up to Evo, Max Power and Fast Ford just found i prefer oil on my hands more!
Nice to see starlets getting some recognition . few things put me off that one though, it doesn't have the window tints and the fog lights aren't there. Although it is a 98 facelift model like mine.
I paid £4.5k for mine in April 2010, First UK owner and 45000miles on the clock too. Not a single mark on it either

The WRX I mentioned was pretty quiet on start up, which I didn't expect. It really was rather refined though you could still hear the burble in the background, especially with a blip or three of the throttle. Since I last saw it, some strategically used Ninja exhaust parts have been added so at least from a Facebook vid I watched it sounds just as a Subaru should When you mention about the airbox being restrictive and the placement, I'm guessing that's why I've seen a few with Morette (or similar) conversions missing one of the lights for extra airflow I've heard its fairly easy and cheap to get upto 260bhp from the 2.0 turbo thats what the old mans looking at doing, the airbox is extremely restrictive for a start, it loops through the front wing feeding from the front left headlight (looking at it from the front, so drivers headlight) for some reason, alot change the clutch for a group N job too. Though an Impreza would be nice and there's plenty about, I'm not totally set on it as I mentioned before. Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Mazda and various other Jap brands have all been browsed along with everything else that catches my eye. Had so many years of car finance, I think I'll probably be one of those people that'll end up buying a car and selling it on after a month or two then repeat that process over and over just to experience as many as possible before some lovely bit of legislation makes them illegal. Which going by some policies going through Europe could be sooner rather than later
Oh and don't mind getting into the oily bits on the car, it's just a matter of whether I don't break something during the learning process

uy an Aristo, that did have the 2JZ-GTE (before the Supra, in fact - the Supra is just a bitsa, Aristo engine, Soarer chassis ).
EDIT:
Oops! Just saw DanDC5's post saying the same thing (but there's no such thing as a Lexus Soarer - Toyota, please ).

On loan or are you buying it? £100k or more for a genuine Hakosuka last time I looked at the auctions.
That's if they ever come through. Most get sold from one private collector to another, they don't like to even give anyone the option of taking them out of Japan.By the way, don't expect an answer from 'thewheelman' about his "February 2012 Hakosuka". Ask him any questions about it and he seems to go all quiet.....

I think i'm one of a few people who actually like they way they look! The later models are the ones to go for as they came with a manual option. They're still cheap to buy, it's just a pity that they are horrendous to insure!
It's OK, I love them! clearly, we have no taste. I was going to say, all I've ever seen is auto ones- which is just gash.
Can't you transplant an R34 face on to the Stagea..? Seem to remember seeing one like that...

Would love a Japanese car one day, not sure which, many on my list.
NSX (NA2)
Civic Type R EK9 and EP3
Skyline R34
Accord Type R
Evo 6 and 8
I've got a UKDM EP3 and well worth the money - I'm hanging onto it for as long as possible, such a hoot when VTEC kicks in I can't imagine quicker hatches putting quite such a smile on face (despite better point-to-point ability/power) cause of the K20a engine and that fab gearbox. I'm now longingly looking at JDM EP3s with the tiny bit extra power but that additional LSD... Yes please!!NSX (NA2)
