RE: Spotted: BMW 550i manual
Discussion
I've got one! Mine's a 550i M Sport manual in Mystic blue, beige leather and dark poplar wood. Bought it in April this year off the original owner with 49,000 miles on. Paid a lot less than 20k!
I was looking round at E39 M5s, but for me this had more appeal.

I did think this was Sepang Bronze and the more I look at these other examples, the more convinced I am! Was simply copied from the ad, wasn't sure how far the BMW Individual colour catalogue stretched...
If you put it into Google, a few cars come up as 'Individual Brass Metallic' so maybe that's what it is?

Correct. And it actually looks much better in the flesh than you'd think - although that would depend on what you thought initially...
Certainly looks a bit better here:
That's the best Z4 I've ever seen. I would mate with that.Certainly looks a bit better here:

Interestingly, SC08ZHP was a cancelled customer order after the BMW dealer (Harry Fairbairn) specced it thinking the 550i was auto only. Therefore no automatic gearbox option was ticked, and it arrived as a manual.
The customer didn't want a manual one, cancelled the order, and a lot of money was lost reducing this to a price they could find a buyer for it at.
Was this the dealers in Irvine by any chance? A friend used to work there and told me a similar story. The customer didn't want a manual one, cancelled the order, and a lot of money was lost reducing this to a price they could find a buyer for it at.
I really don't mind that colour.
I think sometimes used buyers or Internet armchair experts get hung up about colours and trim specs given the bigger picture. Are you ever going to be in a position to buy a new BMW 550i manual? As a used buyer you don't have the same choice of options as a new buyer, but then you don't pay so much in money, credit or company car tax when buying used do you. Look at the recent BX GTi SoTW where contributer had 2 BX GTi 16Vs and was going to transplant the aircon from one before fixing the other and selling it. How much of that goes on other forums? The recent 'I bought a Rover 75 from eBay for £300' thread featured an advert for a 75 for sale by someone on an MG/Rover forum that had retrofitted many extras and trim bits from later models or upper spec. ones.
If you're after a Fiat Coupe, Alfa GTV, Volvo V70R, or Omega MV6 are you really going to hold out for the exact model you'd have bought if you were a new buyer or are you going to compromise on stuff like colour and trim and weigh that up against factors like mileage, number of owners, service history or it just being the best one you've seen.
Look at that 200K RS4 thread where the issue of mileage was mooted for that car only to resurface on eBay with 130K miles on the clock.

Yup, I posted this in the "5-20k" thread the other day. Closest thing to an M5 if you dont like SMG...
But not quite as close as a real E39 M5 would be. Still the best £10k car out there!Edited by jamespink on Monday 15th October 15:48

Love the 550i, I wonder why so many opted for the (much uglier) SE spec rather than M-Sport.
when I bought my e60 SE, there were a few things which turned me away from the M-sport version:-a)M-Sport trim screams "I WANT AN M5 BUT CANT AFFORD ONE"
