£2300?!!!
Not when a good 306 GTi is £1000.
Read immaculate, timewarp, concours. then find a gti6 like it for 1k.Not when a good 306 GTi is £1000.
if your happy with any old st of course this car would seem absurd to you. If condition and history matters theres nothing like it for anywhere near this money.

As much as I like these, I do think 2k is toppy. When I was looking a few months back there was a green one up north with 70k on the clock for £800. Whilst I am in no doubt this one is immaculate, I would struggle to justify the extra money.
Damn this thread....looking at ZX's now
where? can you find me a link? there was a green one (green is the worst colour imo) in the northeast with 120k miles in october cant find the one with 70kDamn this thread....looking at ZX's now
there were only 507 imported to the UK. something like 19 on the road just now. not a lot of choice! considering most are 100k and need a lot of work and this one has 38k had the oil changed 19 times with an impeccable service record.

I can't find the link, but it was on eBay. Maybe it was 120k, but sometimes a lack of miles can be a bad thing.
thanks for that insight. not quite sure what your point is. S10GTA said:

As long as it is maintained properly and regularly, I wouldn't have a problem with this one. Also it should have been driven as intended. None of this "gentle motorway miles" rubbish. Then, I'd be wary. I bought my 1.9 D-Turbo couple of years back for £500 when it had 67k odd miles on the clock. Now it has 93k odd. Some would say that's 'barely run-in' for a 1.9TD, but it did have a fair bit spent on it (in servicing and repair) during this time and also driven properly, so any faults that are likely to occur, comes to the surface rather than festering underneath and the minute someone drives is enthusiastically, it starts to fall apart.

why have you quoted me here?
Why not? What Mark failed to mention in the link is "Its tired, Its done about 160000 miles"
But, if you pick your cars by colour and nothing else, its a bargain compared to mine isnt it?

Will clear some things up in here.
I've got a 1994 Volcane TD, owned it 18 months and have covered 37k in it.
Its a PSA 1.9 Xud9te, these were fitted to a range of vehicles. Had four different turbos and two different fuel pumps. In order to run vegetable oil you need a Bosch pump, im currently paying 90p a litre for sunflower oil. This engine is highly tuneable, my ZX is running 130bhp and 200lbft. Just by turning a few screws. My 306 DT is running 170bhp and 250lbft, modified fuel pump and a T25 turbo. Standard is 92bhp and 145lbft.
The Volcane had stiffer and shorter front shocks, along with passive tear steering. Having owned three 306's before this I can say it handles as good if not better than a GTI-6. Its also 80kgs lighter than a 306 DT.
Many parts are interchangeable, i'm using GTI-6 front brakes (283mm). Also using a HDi gearbox, 70mph is now at 2400 Rpm.
Seriously underated car, not many about and puts most modern crap to shame.
Also had the 1.9TD. Not a volcane but the 5door one. I had mine tuned at the dervdoctor with a new stainless system on it. was approx 110-120bhp. You could certainly tell the difference and sounded quite unique too! Other plus is you could mask the car in a cloud of black smoke when going past a speed camera ect! The power was a bit on/off but what a great engine. Felt like a diesel/petrol hybrid!I've got a 1994 Volcane TD, owned it 18 months and have covered 37k in it.

I guess the suspension on my version was different to the volcane as, though perfectly good, it didn't really like to ne hustled too much on twisty bumpy roads. Sold it for Bugger all because the bodywork wasnt great. Bet the bloke who bought it off me had a bit of a surprise when he put his foot down!

Just been back and had a look at the OP ad, it is a bloody clean looking one isnt it? Your only problem might be that enough people just dont know what it is or that these even exist.
Good luck with the sale though, looks like a great car.
Thanks, To think this was the first car to have that 16v badge that they still sell in Halfords.Good luck with the sale though, looks like a great car.
Other lesser known snippets are that the 16v was made in Spain where they also had the 16v Cup. All 5 door ZX's were made in France.
Great understated car, not well known at the time and almost extinct now! Had a turbo diesel Volcane for a little while and was probably the most robust vehicle I've ever owned. Citroen had a flair for these 'odd ball' hot hatches - I owned a Visa Gti many years before, and again it was practically unknown despite having peugeot Gti engine and running gear - admittedly it had a hit a few branches on the ugly tree but was great fun, plus the rarity was a bonus!
Would be great to own something like this as a second car, what an amazing example.

Here's my old one:
It was built by Greenergy for Nigel Griffiths to drive as a turbo diesel and it competed in the RAC rally and the BTRDA Championship as a diesel before Nigel converted it to run with a standard 16v petrol engine. I bought it from him and fitted the 2.0 16V "kit-car" engine from the Ryton Employee Rally 206, together with a 6-speed dog box. In this spec it was pretty rapid (230bhp), with great handling (proflex all round) and stopped well (big 6-pots on the front). But it was sadly never very reliable. I managed some good times (a few fastest overalls on tarmac) but my best result was 6th O/a on two occasions. The big let-down was the gearlinkage as the "kit-car" exhaust manifold ran through the centre of where the gear linkage was supposed to go. Other problems were braking drive shafts, destroying engine mountings and front wheel hubs.
