RE: Fiat Strada Abarth 130TC: You Know You Want To

131 sport racing 2.0 TC really only available from italy these days, LHD only.
10,000 euros gets you a really good one.
5k euros a reasonable one.
They also do a very interesting supercharged version, volumetrico, take a look here for details.

Similar to the Beta Volumex no doubt. Only 135bhp but the torque of a 4.0l car.10,000 euros gets you a really good one.

The second was a black MK 1 105TC which you can see below. I sold it to a mate who dropped the 2 litre block from a 131 Sport into it.
Living in Ireland we had Ritmo's (not Strada's), and we owned a Mk1 Super 85 (known as a Superstrada in the UK), Mk2 1.7D CL, and a Mk1 105TC which I used a lot when I was in college - but the engine blew up (not under my steerage) so my Dad dropped the 1.7D lump from the Mk2 in there - job done! That was a great car, killed by rust - which was saying something as there was no MOT's in Ireland at the time!Looking at those wheels in the photo above reminded me they were Speedlines, and very brittle - my Dad broke one in a pothole.
We always wanted a Mk2 105TC but there were so few about, so a couple of Regata's followed (100S and a 85 of the last variety) and
I was just thinking of the Fiats we owned over the years...
131 1297cc Mk1 (1976) the last new car my Dad bought
132 1585cc (1978) a model not sold in the UK, no power steering, rev counter or electric windows
124 Special 1438cc (1972)
Various Mk2 Supermirafiori's (1585cc), one even with a factory sunroof
131 Supermirafiori Mk3 - blown 1995cc engine, so in went a 1585cc lump. Only 131 with power steering?!
Ritmo Mk1 Super 85, Mk2 1.7D CL, Mk1 105TC (as stated above, ended up with the 1.7D lump)
Regata 100S saloon (1985), 85 saloon (1987), 1.9DS (1986)
Tipo 1.6 Digit (1989)
Bravo 1.6 (1993)
Marea 1.6 (1997)
My Dad bought an Audi 80 TDI when my mum wasn't looking, so that was the end of may years of Fiats.
Had a mk2 105TC B848FWE in gunmetal - great car, brilliant power off oversteer. It was easily a match for an 8v Golf anywhere. Had a filter and a CSC rear box a really surprising car.
Sold that and moved to a 130TC B297NLW also gunmetal - that had air box removed K&N's on ram pipes, full group N exhaust and a rolling road Avanti Rizzuti racing tune. The std exh manifold had a plug in each branch that allowed each of the chokes on the carb to be tuned. Reckoned on an easy 150 bhp. Not all had webers - some like mine were on solex carbs. Mine had the Recaro buckets that hit the roof when they tilted. They were a homologation car -add harness, cage and fire ex and go racing.
The car was an animal and certainly sounded like one - it went like stink - equal to an UNO turbo, slightly slower on top end than a 16v Astra but faster than a 16v Golf. My mate had to go for an RE1900 conversion to better it.
It could have been me in the the traffic light GP in brum as i lived in edgebaston, worked near the telecom tower made a lot of noise in the tunnels and was generally a terror.
Both the Fiats had way more character than the Pug 1.9 that followed - definitely happy to have owned them and they were 100% reliable if a little crusty at the end. I always look at anything with an Abarth badge in hope.
One of my best drives ever was in the Abarth - Aberdeen to Doncaster with no clutch (snapped cable) great fun - I could go on!

Had a Fiat 131 Sport Twin Cam with twin webbers back in 1989.
Was a fabulous car. About the only one of the forty or so cars I've owned that I really miss.
However, would maybe find one a bit disappointing now ...
