RE: Jaguar F-Type V6 S: Driven

Fair enough although a Boxster S is 1320 kg. With the same number of seats. And 40% more boot space.
Not sure what the benefits of having a larger car are if it's heavier and less practical. And more expensive.
You know how some shoes cost £500 a pair and some cost £20? on this argument everyone would have £20 shoes because they are the same size and cover both feet but we dont because humans will pay more for things that they like and make them happy. Not sure what the benefits of having a larger car are if it's heavier and less practical. And more expensive.

I'm just surprised that Porsche have sold any Boxsters as it would seem that just having 2 seats and larger boot volume is all that counts.
So MX5 beats Boxster that Beats F-Type. easy, Mazda will be delighted.

Boxster is a more sporting roadster, this is a GT really that will be a very good drive. Not sure what the benefits of having a larger car are if it's heavier and less practical. And more expensive.

I bet its more comfortable than the Boxter, very nice to drive and maybe being front engined rear drive maybe more accessible more of the time.
I never really liked Jags, but I like this...a lot. Its going to make the Merc SL, SLK redundant, and probably the current XK
I just wanted to throw this out there, just browsing the Jag web site, and to point the obvious out, Jaguar has never been in a better position. Every car it makes is beautiful, has a great interior, and is up there with the best in class.
Pretty damn great really, wonderful brand with a great history. I would have real trouble choosing one car out of their lineup if I was fortunate enough to!

Only very slight flaw in your "logic" is that I am not convinced a MX5 could offer the same performance as a Boxster but the Boxster should easily match the Jaguar's. And I am not even going to insult your intelligence by going into hobo/cheapo features like a low centre of gravity generating higher lateral grip, superior traction, low polar moment of inertia etc etc. But I do agree that some things are reassuringly expensive for some people.E38Ross said:

pretty enough; but it's about 200 lb. too heavy and with no manual gearbox I'm not there.
200lbs too heavy for what exactly? If it's speed or cornering you mean then you're theory falls short on the Nissan gtr doesn't it. No matter how strong you are, it's difficult to dance in work boots....

I think its safe to say this car has taken the motoring world by a storm. WANT WANT WANT! Ill take an entry level V6, sports exhaust, 18inch wheels, british racing green with red roof and red interior! mmmm!
Here you go:I like the white ones and would wnt red calipers which means bigger wheels needed so I've gone for the style I like best which unfortunately are only available as 20s:

I doubt porsche will be worried by the F-type. and lets hope for JLR it sells better than the aston V8, as the aston is way below sales target.
the F-type isn't bringing anything new to the party apart from the jaguar name.
it is basically a good muscle car with an updated 10 year old heavy chassis, a big overpowered V8, an auto box, simple braking technology and no space inside despite being almost as big as...a corvette.
no innovation in the list wether it is in the architecture, the weight saving solutions, the transmission, the efficiency, the aero.
it seems to be a good car, but even autocar admits that the V6 isn't so smooth, the steering is fidgity, the gearbox is good mainly in auto mode, the traction isn't great...
and finally design wise, it could have been done 10 years ago, especially the front. it is a strange mix of Z8 proportions and corvette crude styling. it is better proportioned than the boxster, but the porsche is far sleeker and more modern, it doesn't have those cheap stuck on plastic vents on the bonnet or the fender or the gimmicky hotrod exhaust pointed towards the sky. the worst bit being the front side air vents...not only they look wrong but they are fake!

Having read Matt Prior's review of the V6S I'd say its a luke warm reception, given the way way Autocar tend to crow about a JLR product.

"In fact, think there is only one manufacturer Jaguar has to worry about.
Trouble is, it’s from Stuttgart, and it makes not one but two compelling models.
The V6 isn’t the smoothest motor on the block"
When BMW give you the incredible S65 for 50 odd grand a 70k car should deliver. (that's me not autocar)
edited to add, Sutters loves the V8s though.

Way way way overpriced. It's nice but not for that kind of money. A boxster s makes a much better proposition- the jag would need to be an awesome drive to match the look- I'm guessing though it will form over substance
No need to guess, there are plenty of reports online which will help out. And none I have seen indicate it is form over substance.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
