I expect visibility is terrible; the car is extremely wide; the wheels probably cost about £20k to refurb. Easy to sneer as you parallel park a shopping car in 2 seconds flat.

On the other point, if you don't think you would pass a driving test, get off the road!
I'd wager the relative cost of refurbing the wheels on my car is far more significant than the cost to him and I'm pretty sure I'm more precious about damaging it...

It's easy to sneer because they're genuinely terrible at it. Shmee had a video of one on his channel but I can't seem to find it, here's one example though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNH96Wuu4ns

I'm sure the business he sold, the freelance media work he does, and the sponsored videos he puts out helps a fair bit.
I understand he had a business which must have netted him a few quid but amazed travelling over the world taking videos of cars pays well enough to afford a McLaren and living in London etc...

Fair play if it does but just suspect must be getting income from elsewhere...

Not got a problem with it before people say if he has had help fair play to him smile

Wow. Way to enter a thread and give everyone a clear understanding of who you are in 3 short posts.
- We chose to live there because it's an amazing part of one of the best cities in the word; with great shopping, food, culture and connections on our doorstep. We took on our flat in the winter, and didn't have the benefit of knowing that there would be several dozen middle-aged men behaving like children every evening and weekend of the summer.

I love cars, and couldn't think of a better demonstration of this than travelling more than a thousand miles, spending up to a thousand pounds, taking a week off work, and planning on getting no sleep while I listen to the noise of racecars thrashing around the French countryside at the Le Mans 24 Hours. That's what 'car people' (300k at a time) are all about.
Neither the losers that spend their days doing the 0-25 sprint, or the sad, pasty children that line the sides of the road are 'car people'. You would probably get a similar-sized audience to watch a bloke walk down the street with his wang hanging out.
The world would be a boring place if we all the same things, wouldn't it?

If you are happy spending a grand to go to France then so be it, but most people don't have that luxury of just being able to go to Le Mans & seeing these cars in the flesh in their own back yard is the closet they will ever get to touching one if this makes them happy, so be it.

Seem to remeber you actually driving to London to see these cars few years back.
Your not a spotty over excited teenager. confused
nono You remember incorrectly.

I have driven in to the city a few evenings, it is a nice place to take photos and have a bite to eat.

I have never been "Supercar spotting" though....hanging around Knightsbridge of an evening with the "rev it up" knobs and spotty saddos doesn't really appeal to me.

<About Tim Burton, Schmee150's real name>

What is Tim’s job?

One of the most frequent questions Tim receives on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter is “What’s your job?” or “What do you do for a living?” – huge numbers of these come through every single day!

unnamedOf course there isn’t the time to reply to every single comment – just think how much time would be spent replying to the thousands of comments on a daily basis! It’s very tempting to write joke answers like ‘drug dealer’, or ‘robbed a bank’, just to see what replies then come back but that wouldn’t exactly answer the question.

Tim left school at 18 after completing A-levels and immediately set about growing an online electronics retail business that developed into a London high-street shop. The business quickly changed hands and he travelled abroad training to become a ski instructor before teaching the sport in New Zealand. Following the effects of a major injury Tim returned to the UK and set to work with a permanent position in the technology team of an Investment Consultancy in the City of London. This proved to be hugely decisive while working in a successful and rapidly developing company in terms of the experience and drive to succeed going forward.

During this period Tim’s love for cars developed beyond just posting pictures of car spots on internet forums, into the ever-expanding Shmee150 platforms and those surrounding it. He took the decision to make the move away from a full time position to being able to spend time across various connected platforms to the supercar video theme; from freelance video and media work to involvement in car events and sourcing for promotional purposes. Who knows, in a year he may be doing something completely different! He will endeavour to remain self-employed as it is what enables him to take the time to follow his passions in life; supercars and travelling.

To be a little more precise, during 2013 Tim undertook some freelance tasks for a tech company under Non-Disclosure Agreement, some catalogue work for an auction company, got involved in a few car sourcing/commission operations, some social media consultancy tasks and ran a few websites in the car world that you know about including Shmee150 and The Supercar Kids. Being a young guy with no wife or children as dependants it allows him the opportunities to operate around the hours and timings he wants to spend the rest of the time around cars – which you can’t beat!

The regular trigger for this question is purely from the perspective of ‘owning a supercar’, but the simple fact is that there isn’t one single career path that is the only way to own the car of your dreams. The question is often asked with an assumption that a single word will be the answer, but in almost any career it’s possible; whether you choose business, television, finance, sport, law or anything else.

At the end of the day, the steps Tim has taken personally to get where he is won’t necessarily work for someone else. He started doing his own thing from the age of 18 and the small businesses he has created can’t just be replicated at the click of one’s fingers. The trick is doing what you enjoy and working hard at it, being happy is the most important aspect.

I suppose it could cost you any amount really depending on how you get there & wether or not you chose to stay in a posh hotel or live it rough for a week camping like an over enthusiastic spotty teenager winkjust waiting to get a glimpse of a car zooming past you at 200mph with your Iphone on full zoom hoping to get the "perfect" picture & the only real chance of seeing these cars up close would be to get a paddock pass, so yeah it could cost you any amount really. tongue out

Which bit did I get wrong?

Sorry for upsetting any race go-ers but I find most motorsport boring & would much rather see these things on normal roads but not driving like knobs. Each to their own I guess.

No need to wait for a glimpse, 56 cars and something like 32 hours of track action there is plenty of time to catch the cars on track from a few metres away. If you want to see them up close, head into the town centre for scrutineering, wander around the back of the pits without the need for a paddock pass or head into the free pitlane walk. So yeah, it usually costs us less than £200 wink

The trill of seeing a car that's so rare is what keeps me going back to London, quite a few cars I have saw that are one of one or one of 5/10 etc, seeing them parked up on a road is much better then seeing them flying around a track, yeah revving the cars up and driving like dicks is sometimes annoying and dangerous but for many people they enjoy to see that, I enjoy being able to find things like 3 Aston Martin DB7 Zagato's within the space of 5 mins baring in mind thy only made 100.. Then there's being able to spot things like a 250SWB on park lane or a 166MM Barchetta.. Etc, or even the newer things like Veyrons, aventador roadsters, 458 speciales.

Many people go to take videos to make money or at least pay for their trips, some of those people are the ones that are ruining it by standing in the middle of the road, asking the drivers to rev up or speed down the road.. I just go to take photos and that's it, I don't go and ask the drivers to drive fast down a road so I can get a nice panned shot... I don't ask them to rev up and annoy everybody.. Some of the people who have commented on this thread don't see why many people go to London to see the newest supercars around or the classics, this is a car forum not a lets take the piss out of them because they like cars and videoing/photographing them.

Am I the only one who doesn't care? At the end of the day, if that person has the money to buy a Ferrari / McLaren / Maserati / etc as a city commute car, then that's their choice.

I totally that you shouldn't drive like absolute loons on the streets, however lets face it, if you had a screaming V1, you would half be tempted to floor it in 1st down a tunnel / narrow street / traffic lights.

Exactly this..... I know a couple of PHers who would drive fast or rev their engines just for the sake of it but as soon as somebody in a "supercar" does it, they are called knobs. rolleyes

Thought did indeed cross my mind seeing that Lambo piling into that Toyota and then watching the youtube coverage and some of the associated videos.

Fail to see the difference between that and Maccy D's carpark goonery tbh.

Yeah, some people will have double standards out of jealousy. I'd like to think I'm consistent, though. I've seen guys revving the nuts off at carpark PH meets and doing fly-bys at silly speeds - I think they're dheads. I also think people that do the same/similar in their Veyron in london are dheads too... Oh and the chavved up Corsa drivers doing it in Bury St Edmunds town centre, they're all dheads.

I think this is very fair. Whenever I'm wandering about in London I'll get out the camera to take photos of some cars, although almost always parked. Usually something classic or unusual rather than the 100 458s but that's just my preference. There's nothing wrong with driving a supercar in London and there's nothing wrong with taking photos of supercars in London. There is a problem with people revving the nuts off them, driving like dicks and spotters holding up traffic. Just a minority that do it but they're quite a literally a very noisy minority.
