Went to the Custard Car show at Edinburgh round about '75 or '76
Was absolutely blown away with the standard of many of the exhibits. For a guy only into Rallying at the time it was a revalation. Still love to se a nice custom.

If a blue flash passes you on the way and you are not sure what it was, remember you saw it here first ! and no!, it is not a super fast VW on steroids. It is that damned "Madison coupe again"

Isn't the '55 Chevy in American Graffiti and Two Lane Blacktop the same car?
Yes, there were two '55s used in AG, the main car was re-used in 2 Lane Blacktop and is a sedan (has a b-pillar). The other AG car was a hardtop that they stuck a bit of 4x2" in to imitate the pillar. In American Graffiti you don't see the hood open, just as well, the engine wasn't available in '62.

Loving this thread. A type of car culture I had no knowledge of or particular interest in before but finding your posts really interesting, thanks Crafty.

I first bought CC when i saw the cover with the V8 Milkfloat on it. I did a few of the Ally Pally shows and then went to Santa Pod.

I continued reading CC until it went pants, then started to read Street Machine until it became VW monthly.

I love Hot Rods and have a soft spot for them, but personally, would need a ten car garage to justify owning one myself.

I love the engineering involved.

I helped my cousin RWYB a 32 Plymouth with his mate, but they had a 390 ford motor which went pop to often.

Roaring Rat and Henry Hirise were two of my favourites, as well as Berts 32 Ford at the strip.

And Winstons Rover...

But here was plenty of nice stuff out there.

Talking about cars on steroids !
How about this MG Midget V8 that has been massaged ,remodelled and modified to make an extraordinary little weekend warrior to take out on Sunday to the driving tests held locally on the car-park of Martin-Marietta aircraft factory and piss-off all those “ M “series BMW wally’s when they have to eat my dust.
Car is set up with a warmed over Rover V8 3-5litre, 10.25 comp ratio pistons ,Crane hot road camshaft, reworked cyl-heads , Edlebrock power-plus intake with matching carb (650cfm) connected to a reprogrammed Borg-Warner type 67 auto trans (high-stall T/C ). Rear end came from a Triumph TR 4 (rally car with LSD).Drifting that car was a doddle and produced a great big smile every time it fired up

Here's a bit of history. This is the first chopped Merc done by Sam Barris back in 1950odd. This car was bought by Sam brand new and chopped within a few months. Imagine doing that to a new car thesedays!

I took this at the last Paso Kustom Show in California back in May 2007, just after it's restoration by Brizo's had been completed.

Crikey.....you are out of touch if you think Brian Setzer & Reverend Horton Heat is modern rockabilly scene laugh
Unless your definition of modern is 30 years ago.
I could well be! Rock 'n' roll's been going downhill ever since Buddy Holly died...
Pah....

It's alive and kicking still.

There's been some and currently are some really good young bands/singers from the USA/UK/Europe and even Australia around in the past 20 years.

There were some great young (and old) acts at the 18th Rockabilly Rave two weekends ago.
I was quoting Milner. I'm sure there are plenty of great modern rock 'n' rollers, but the ones that get the most publicity have about as much to do with rockabilly as bowling shirts covered in eight-balls.

Any PH rodders going to the Chelsea bridge cruise at the end of the month?
We're hoping to be there. The last we did was the Halloween one, and that's far too long ago. We don't have a rod, though, so we'll be providing period '70s scenery in the Midget.
Not this month but will get along to next month with any luck. No rod here either but a `51 Ford though built in Dagenham. wink

I'm shaking a bit with the mere anticipation of seeing It ('It' must surely be capitalised for such a car).

Vauxhall Viva Film Star !
When American Graffiti first went on general release at the cinema it came to the "Bristol " just a I/4 mile up the road from our workshop at the other end of the "Queensway" tunnel on B'ham's inner circle expressway. The manager gave me a telephone call and requested a favour. Could we please put on some type of show to promote this film ?. He must have been tipped off that we were into street - racing. So it was agreed that we would display our car on the forcourt of the cinema on Bristol St with our tuning "logo"prominently displayed. At throwing out time we did a few "Burn-outs" for the patrons and then took off down the tunnel towards Aston Expressway before the fuzz arrived (they were hot & bothered on Racers back then).
