£38k for a non M BMW??? Am I the only one thinking this will depreciate badly?
If I had £38k to splash on a fast practical car, I'd go for one of these: http://selekt.volvocars.co.uk/en/used-cars/Volvo/V...
And before the pedantic patrol start the argument old Vs new... it's hardly a greek relic is it!
Was in one of those Volvos at the weekend and loved it. Strangely for me it appeals much more than the BMW, given that I'm usually a fanboyIf I had £38k to splash on a fast practical car, I'd go for one of these: http://selekt.volvocars.co.uk/en/used-cars/Volvo/V...

60mph is 26.8 meters per second. A typical car is 5m long, so that equates to a 180ms time difference in the following driver noticing the car ahead stopping, if we assume the LED lamps illuminate effectively instantaneously.
Unfortunately, our eyes are not instantaneous (hence we can watch telly at 50 individual frames per second and see it as "continuous").
By the time you've factored in various factors such as the fact incandesence bulbs can be seen BEFORE they reach full brightness, i'd be amazed if you could realistically see any improvement in reaction time in the real world!
I didn't see your reply. However, when the Vauxhall Astra 'G' was launched however many years ago, it had an LED high level brake light, and you could see it light up just before the other brake lights. You had to be paying attention though, but you could see it 60mph is 26.8 meters per second. For me BMW have absolutely nailed it yet again with the 340i and their Revolution-Evolution approach in terms of model generations. Kind of reminds me of the E46 & E39 and those are cracking (BMW) cars. Mind you I would say that, since I love the brand. This 340i would be such a typical BMW in the right spec, if I had the money I would order one later today. Granted it is pricey, but I have no doubt it is a very very capable car - fun to drive and very elegant, I would probably keep it for a very long time, if in position to own one. Why would anyone consider an A4 over the 340i is beyond me, but I respect all choices. C-class has never done it for me, I don't like the XE as good as it is, so for me it's this or the new Alfa in QV form. Lovely bimmer in the right spec (six-cylinder petrol, rear-drive, manual, silver, black leather, wood inserts, xenons and sunroof is all I need) and I feel in 30 years time this could well be regarded as a classic BMW.
Nothing better than a bit (a lot) of dry humour. 10/10Max_Torque said:

I'm sure that faster reacting brake lights leads to faster reaction times all else being equal. Also I imagine algorithms already 'pre-light' brake lights in an emergency, in the same way that some cars pre-load brakes and automatically apply 100% braking force under certain conditions.60mph is 26.8 meters per second. Actual FPS for motion to be perceived as continuous depends on the brightness of the screen relative to the room, and the speed of motion in the frame. 24hz/fps will appear fluid in a dim room like a cinema (low light - the first lossless video compression

Im probably going to be in the market for one of the compact exec's but in estate form in a few years, probably buying rather than the usual lease. I must admit when i see the latest 3-series or any new BMW i always think they look very cheap, especially the hundreds of 320d's you see with one little exhaust out the back. They even stick a pea shooter on the back of the 420d which just looks s
t!
I'll be heading to the Jag showroom for a 3.0 XE thanks.

You want a compact executive estate? Go for X6. EDIT: Welcome to 2015.![](/inc/images/censored.gif)

Being an old guy, I remember BMW's were renowned for their 6 cylinder engines. Therefore the 340 would appeal to me. I would not consider a BMW without a 6 pot engine. Sorry but buying anything less is purely for the badge and not worth the premium. Anyway I have said it before, these cars are not really for the UK, we (generally)cannot afford them.

I can't really understand the issue with the price. Sure, I wouldn't personally spend £38k on a four seater road car, but you need about £30k these days to get an absolute base model FE/RWD saloon such as the Jag XE, Merg C or 3 series, so 25% more for the range topper seems pretty fair to me.

It's A PH obsession that "they should knock these out for £15k, they'd sell loads of them", almost any time a car price is mentioned whether it's a GT86, road-legal Formula Ford or an LF-A. It's the PH business strategy massive, they can run every company better than it's being run from the comfort of their keyboards. Artey said:

Good grief how dull!
XE for me, please.
I have always seen the 3 series as dull I agree...The XE is hardly a cutting edge headturner though either and they couldn't have designed the rearend to be anymore bland if they had tried.XE for me, please.
It's good that the XE is a credible alternative to the german marque's now though.
