Thats a pretty shocking level of rust for a car that I consider not to be too old. Shame its gone this way OP, reminds me of the 405 I shipped down from Scotland. Big mistake!

It's a 15-16yo end-of-production example of a now-almost-extinct disposable mass-market car launched 24yrs ago.

I'm not sure why it would be that big a surprise, tbh.

Well I think you are bonkers, absolutely bonkers. For that kind of money you could buy an already appreciating classic or decent modern hot hatch / saloon.

Crivens blooming heck. Now that is a good way to waste £5k plus.
To me this is too many people with negative comments.

Shame the OP cant make it work, we've all been burnt before! It sucks.

Fair do's. People entitled to their opinions and all that, though. The overall reception was positive, I thought.

I dunno, it's pretty bad. I've got 25year old cars that are much better. Mondeo was always bad for rust, and this one's probably one of the worsererererer ones.

New enough to find another good one though smile

A family member started to rebuild a Nova that had been in the family sincere the 1980's; he had the engine bored, custom gearbox, custom interior made using original 80's/90's VX panels.

The engine imploded and he is now in the process of fitting a VX220 2.2, he has hardly done any engine or body work (full bare metal strip down and respect) himself.

Over £30,000 spent, be could have bought a F355 or classic 911 ....

It's your money, off you enjoy the Mondeo then enjoy it !
fking hell that's a lot of money on a Nova, though what he does with his money is his buisness I guess. Currently working on a Nova myself, but stuck on the bodywork. Both sills and both rear arches need welding and I'm just thinking about buying a cheap second hand welder and doing the welding myself, though I have no idea which sort of welder I should get or where to get the panels (most places I email never reply for some reason). Anyway, good luck OP, hope you don't find anything else that needs money spent on it

You want a gas mig welder ideally, don't get a gasless there spattery and horrible to use. I've never looked for vauxhall repair panels, (but after the pita i've had trying to get the spot welded wings on my capri just right i may look at one for the next project.)
ebay has been decent for any ford panels i needed, there must be someone who makes them for vauxhalls so a good search on google maybe register with the owners clubs online im sure you'll find them. If not buy some sheets of steel the correct thickness for the repair and it's not too hard to make up repair panels with patience and a bit of effort.

Goodness now you know never to by an old mondeo. Could you not conceal the rot and sell it on ? That way you should get most of your money back. I'm afraid you were done up like a kipper by the previous owner.

Well one way to look at it is you have a perfect donor car so could buy that one and salvage bits off the other one ?

I think that just about every part of the car advertised is probably in better order than the parts on mine. Going to speak to the seller, although will struggle to get up to view it soon...

Looks really good, but I have recently had issues with rust just being painted over. (censoredcensoredcensoredcensored)
Check it over thoroughly. You know where rust can hide.
MOT history looks fairly good as well - https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

Any advice appreciated but please don't anyone say to scrap the car, I appreciate that the sensible thing to do would be to sell it on ebay for parts and use the money as a deposit on a diesel Golf lease. However, I want an ST200, and this one is actually lovely up top, the interior is spotless and well looked after, history is good etc. I can't see any point in selling it for scrap to then try and buy another and probably end up with the same problems, especially as I believe there are only about Limiteds 100 left in the UK...
I'm afraid I can't give you advice on costs or what's involved in the repairs but all I can say is DON'T scrap it! smile

Too many cars are given up on because of costs where as if you love a car enough you'll get it fixed regardless. Too many people refuse to repair a car because of a costly repair and I dread to think how many cars, now classics that have been scrapped because of it.

Sounds like this one is worth saving smile
