You all forget, BMW do sell a stripped out 1 series, it's even a diesel!
Ok so it's not cheap, but if you buy a cheap 1er in a few years then you know you can get the weight down quite a bit by dumping most of the interior
And it has been trundling round (spookily quietly) at the back of the BTCC this season - not the best advert TBH press release gumpf said:
Powered by a 1,995cc diesel engine, the BMW 120D Motorsport provides 245hp and 450Nm of torque from its modified engine.
There are adjustable anti-roll bars front and rear as well as Sachs adjustable dampers all round and the race-bred braking system comprises 332mm steel discs with 6-piston AP fixed callipers at the front and 284mm steel discs with 4-pot AP callipers at the rear and the car rides on large BBS racing rims.
Inside, the car is stripped for racing to save weight, taking the Motorsport 120d racer's weight to just 1,135kg complete with driver (compared with 1,415 kg for the road version), and uses a BMW M designed carbon-fibre reinforced aero package featuring new flared front and rear mud guards, front apron and rear diffuser.
The price? The racing package for the BMW 120d costs 95,000 Euros plus tax, in addition to the on-the-road price of the ‘standard’ car. So probably near enough to £100000 all up There are adjustable anti-roll bars front and rear as well as Sachs adjustable dampers all round and the race-bred braking system comprises 332mm steel discs with 6-piston AP fixed callipers at the front and 284mm steel discs with 4-pot AP callipers at the rear and the car rides on large BBS racing rims.

I got to see the car at brand this year. I thought it was a electric car, it was so quiet, can anyone here explain why and how this Diesel car sounds so quiet.

135i has a nice engine and all but it will drink fuel like anythin , if u dont mind its stumpy looks and tt rivalling price tag then go for it , or just simply buy the 123d ,much better ! a 2.0 d with twin turbos and 55mpg , now thats a everday coupe !
Thats my take on the 1 coupe ,, the 123d looks to be a belter waynepixel said:

Same reason as the Dag-dags at Le-Mans I would imagine...If they put regular exhausts on, they would be driving round the track spitting out enormous filthy clouds of black sooty smoke...
Now obviously this is not exactly the image they (manufacturer) are trying to get across, so they have mahooosive mufflers/silencers on to catch all the crap, thus muting the sound.

Sorry, £36,000 for this car is utter madness, BMW are REALLY taking the piss with this one!!
Christ you could get a low mileage CSL for £36K or even a nice 535d with sensible miles on the clock. The world has gone mad, BMW are simply taking people for a ride with this car and the pricing, and I have been an owner and driver of 10+ BMW's in the past.
Madness.

It's only £36K if you spec it to that, if you do, you see it as value for money.
It starts at not much over £21K FFS I wish some people switched there brains on when ever there is a BMW thread, the childish responses are wearing thin now.
You work for BMW, so one can understand you have a perspective...It starts at not much over £21K FFS I wish some people switched there brains on when ever there is a BMW thread, the childish responses are wearing thin now.
My post was referencing the specification in the road test AS QUOTED, that car is too expensive at £36K. I am WELL aware of the starting point, I've owned 10+ BMW's, many of which I bought from new and I am not anti BMW, but at £30K the car is too expensive in my eyes and at £36K its madness, even if the base model starts at £21K.
Doesn't mean you wont sell shed loads however.

That sniff petrol advert always pops up on this type of thread and it just gets boring....
Yes the 135 is the best part of £30K (or £36 with some bits ) but if you look at the figures, its going to be a great fun car or a £20K cheaper M3 alternative?

Why do you compare the price of a new car with a secondhand car? Its hardly comparing apples with apples is it?Christ you could get a low mileage CSL for £36K or even a nice 535d with sensible miles on the clock. Why not say "£36k, the world has gone mad. Christ, you could buy 18,000 pints of beer for that" ?
Compare like with like, for goodness sake. If you want to compare it with a 535d (though God knows why you would, one is a small sports coupe, the other a quick diesel barge) then compare a new car with a new car. A 535d M Sport with leather and prof sat nav is >£46k
And as for BMW taking people for a ride - do they go out and put a gun to customers heads and force them to buy? If the product is good and priced right then it will sell. If it not it won't. Quite simple.

Price perception is interesting here, by dropping the diff and shortening 10 inches of steel, why would anyone expect this car to be much cheaper? All the other build costs are virtually the same. Oh yeah sorry, it is a small car and must be cheap nd nasty and big cars are great, and expensive. This is not a fiesta versus granada price mindset.
