Considering the problems we've seen recently in the car industry and reports of Jaguar and Land Rover possibly being sold.. am glad Jaguar are seemingly designing and building cars which are desirable and not only good looking but good to drive too.

The only real competition are just plain boring in looks!

Well Done Jag.. Unfortunately am never going to afford to own 1, but from the review, sounds like its gonna be a hit!

I think jag's new found focus particularly on making the top class interiors will pay dividends in the long term

Saw one last week on the A14. As I approached from behind it I wondered what it was, as it just didn't resemble anything else, got closer and saw the leaping cat and knew.
Which is why they should put the leaping cat on the front instead of the circle cat which looks just like a Buick.

Its hideous!

Seriously, what were they thinking,

Look at this, its efortlessly beautifull, with brilliant proportions

Now look at this. its just doesn't flow. the fronts wrong, the bonnet raised to the grill reminds me of a volvo. the lights look squinty, the lower bumper is overly fussy. The middle is ok, but its not a Jaguar. and the rear is just a total mess. That black bit makes it look like a bit of trim has fallen off.

And that looks really cramped in there to me, either that or the driver is huge.

It's nice, but the rear is going to be a divider of opinion. If I was spending 100k, I'd look at a 760Li. The engine choice is also somewhat limited, although this seems to be a trend with Jag.
We are talking about the rear of the new XJ when the *whole* of the 7 series is up for an "ugly" award?

Im staggered that anybody can even think of whinging about the Jags looks compared to the latest 7series, S class and A8. I will grant that it isnt the original XJ6 shape pretty, but it is in a different league to whats on offer from Germany in terms of style!
...whats on offer from Germany in terms of style!

I tell you: NOTHING !

... and I love the new XJ.

THIS - is the new Jaguar!

Cool Jaguar ads anyway, look in "youtube". They have a brilliant ad-agency to transport the 'Jaguar-feeling', IMO.

...and the new XJ absolutely lives up to it. Great work, Jaguar!

And if you are in for a new car and are not keen on a Jaguar XF, - go for the Passat CC then! It's a beauty! It has lots of style ...

I saw one of these on the M1 a few months ago.

I really want to like it but I'm not sure. What struck me was how big it looked.

For all those who are commenting that 'that doesn't look right', 'that's badly proportioned' including the clearly delusional man who thinks a Lexus looks better. It seems to be the case historically that when Jags are released the styling is always questioned and often criticized, but ends up ageing far more gracefully than their competition.
XK8 is a perfect example, many people slated its styling at launch, now look at it relative to other cars from the same period. Or compare an X308 XJR to a german or japanese luxo barge from the same period, the Jag still looks sleek, whereas some of the others look boxy and dated (Lexus LS anyone?)
I have my order in for the Supercharged model, it simply has no real competition. The 7 series looks like it has melted, the previously pretty A8 now looks like a giant A4 rep mobile, and the S class, which doesn't look bad, is a bit of a boat...

That is not a beautiful car.
Agreed... it's cos it's Italian you see.
Also agreed. If it had an Infiniti badge on it, they'd all slag it off.
Here you go chaps.

www.specsavers.co.uk

It's six years old FFS and still piddles all over the competition.
Oddly, I didn't like it six years ago either so the passage of time, which often softens the blow, should make it look better but Billy the Big-Mouthed carp is alive and well.

Thats such a beautiful car. You can get the 3.6 V8 or whatever it is for around 15k. Absolutely bargain.

No, it's an ugly pastiche of an older car (forty years older) that was truly beautiful.

I notice you took the one and only decent view.

Jaguar has bodged this car. It will age horribly.

Btw, that QP has had a nose job, looks sharper - less balding, pudgy Italian and more Lothario in that shot.

New XJ - front great. Sides good from the front, going badly wrong towards the rear. Rear awful.

I was lucky enough to have a preview of one last August when we went on our Nurburgring road rally. Stunning car (in the flesh) and the interior is simply magnificent. It has the quality of an A8 but the ambience that is lacking in the Germans.

Although the rear looks bulbous in photo's it looks more cohesive in the flesh, I think the styling will be one that grows on people as time passes. Obviously the American and Asian market have clearly been targeted, this however makes complete sense as good old Blighty and Europe would not support Jaguar / Land Rover alone.

This and the XK / XF range really show that JLR are on a roll, long may it continue.

Because at first glance, I thought that was a BMW 6 series.

As for the bloated XJ with Max Power slats on the sides, it could hardly be a worse end.

To those who deem it ugly at the back I, too, was of that opinion ......... until seeing one in the flesh last Wednesday driving into CDG airport in Paris! It looks aboslutely superb from all angles and my initial 'concerns' were dispersed immediately.
