Im no fan of Top Gear but it was not over impressive on the test track. the tyres were screaming for mercy as i recall and if the drag race between the Bugatti and the F1 had been over 1/4 mile as is the norm it would have been a complete miss match in the F1s favour. the bugatti only pulled ahead when its higher top speed came into play
Oh noes, the stupid is multiplying.
In that case get off here then mate!

What is missing? I often ponder what the thing that people say is missing is...
Crappy engineering? Flakey build quality? Lack of development? Being built in a shed by men in boiler suits? An outsourced V8 engine? The ability to go more than a few K without falling apart?

You see, because the Veyron doesn't do any of the above, it has no soul or character. Therefore it's shyte. Simple really.

Ain't PH great?
....all we need now is a few complaints that it isn't N/A, the same 3 pages of post about throttle response, and we'll have the full set.

Does anyone else think they only did this version as they saw how badly spanked the old version was (up to 200mph) by the Mclaren F1 on Top Gear.

McLaren F1 still the best super car ever. Its Lighter, smaller, better designed and has 3 seats.
The Top Gear race was over a 1 mile distance and from what I recall the Bugatti passed the flag first.....

anyway

But the number to end all numbers concerning the Super Sport, the one that will stop you in your tracks and make you either laugh or cry, is this; in the same time that it takes a McLaren F1 to get from rest to 200mph, the Veyron SS can go from zero to 200mph and back again – and then do zero to 60mph as well. Think about that for a moment – and then think about it for a little while longer.

Wasn't overly impressive? What would have been impressive?

Tyres screaming for mercy? On the limit of grip?! Never...

wink
One word "Ultima" it might not have been official but we all know it has gone around there faster than anything else by a long margin and at a fraction of the price
Yes, we have a winner!

Page 5 for the first mention of the Ultima. I was becoming slightly concerned that a whole Veyron (or other supercar) thread might pass without the inevitable Hinckley-based kit car comparison, but I'm delighted to see that when the chips were down PH delivered in spades.

It's still fugly though.

It wouldn't make it into my dream garage for that very reason. Doesn't mean I'm not impressed by it, but I wouldn't want to own one.

Managed to use Top Gear as a source of factual information as well. Brilliant!

I remember that when the shape was initially shown and the 1000 hp figure claimed, feasibility studies hadn't been done. It had turned out that the proposed shape was distinctly unsuitable for cooling the engine and that the cooling system draws a large amount of power to overcome that. In my eyes, this makes the car overengineered to compensate for a fundamental flaw. Of course I don't have the kind of money to afford it, but I'm perfectly sure this wouldn't be a car that I would buy even if I could.

Can never understand the hate for the Bugatti?!?!?

If Journos as good and experienced as Steve Sutcliffe and Chris Harris say its an amazing car and best car in the world.

Then thats good enough for me!

I remember reading that Chris Harris says it could even show a 997 GT3 the way home on some country roads and that it IS fun to drive and involving.

but yet soooo many people on here slag it for being boring and just a top speed car with no character that havent even ever seen one!! let alone driven one!

by the way, Steve Sutcliffe was awesome when he tested the proper Jaguar F1 car. Its well worth watching the videos of that. The man can drive!

He also drove the Honda of 2007, and really impressed in it (0.5 secs off the test driver's time I seem to recall) - both well worth watching yes

I for one also cannot understand how can you claim the world's fastest production car (not made in a shed) is dull? I am sure that most people here would crap their pants if given a proper passenger ride in that, and for myself am sure that me driving it flat out to the speed limit will most definitely rival any other exhilaration that I've ever experienced (and will) in my life.

This car is an unprecedented example of what engineering can achieve. It's on the level of the space shuttle (as someone already mentioned). I literally get excited thinking about how well engineered it is. In my mind you really do have to be ignorant and dull to pass this car on as anything else but the pinnacle of car engineering.

Yes that's right. He did also drive the Jaguar a few years before that (2003 maybe?!) at a track in Spain (can't recall where).

No it's rubbish. It's not as good as an f1, a smurf blue f1. In fact just like that bloke on here. I'd love an f1 like that , exactly like that. Maybe if I say enough nice things about the f1, flemke will give me a lift in it and we can meet Gordon murray and we can all be bestest friends.

Hardly luxurious, is it...
Its not meant to be its a sports car if you want luxury buy a Bently Merc etc
You see, that is where the comparisons are getting silly. The Veyron is the equivalent of Hugh Hefner's slippers, and a space shuttle. Performance AND luxury. The veyron caters for one of those variables, and the Bentley the other. the Veyron caters for both. It's expensive, but then again a lot of things are.
It may cater for both but it isn't fantatstic at either. It's not specific enough.
nono

Utterly wrong. Just absolutely completely hopelessly wrong. Sorry chap, try one and let me know your thoughts afterwards.
