I'd still have the 458. Can't wait to compare top gear track times wink
there won't be a comparison. so long as the macca is done in the dry like the 458.
Go on then so what is 'no comparison', 5 seconds faster?

I think you changed the wrong one. The Ferrari is now 413bhp/ton when it was already correct at 378bhp/ton hehe

Mclaren for me......Hands down. The Ferrari does not get a look in.

1) It's British,
2) It's faster,
3) Drinks less fuel,
4) Lower Co2,
5) It's more interesting technically than the Ferrari,
6) It's completely bespoke. No other parts are shared with any other car,
7) As a shape it's more grown up. You just no that the tec from the F1 side of the business was fully employed in the development,
8) The fact that Lewis & Jenson will have one appeals to me more than Alonso in a Ferrari.....I could go one & one.

Imagine buying a 12C & going to Mclaren headquarters to see it being made. Then going back to pick it up. Getting the factory tour. Becoming one of a very small group of people to ever own a Mclaren road car. Then imagine taking it for a service. Very special experience indeed.

Far more special than visiting your local Ferrari dealer. No doubt more friendly as well!

I'd rather imagine myself driving it to be honest, going for a service has never been a highlight of any car ownership experience.

I would have the Mclaren in a heartbeat. It looks fabulous IMO and I have never liked the style of the 458. To read that it beats the 458 in most areas too is the icing on the cake. The Mclaren F1 has always been my favourite and this new one looks a lot like it from some angles particularly the rear 3/4 view. Add in the fact that its less likely to catch fire than the 458 and its a no brainer for me!

So if you spec the Macca with the carbon brakes that come as standard on the 458 it`s more expensive. With all the options available on both these it`s very easy to turn them into £200,000 cars. Is that in line with inflation compared to when the 430 was launched.....I don`t think so.

One thing bothers me, I`m not sure how I would feel about buying the macca when it creates max power at 7000 rpm, hardly the stuff of supercars, more usable but hardly exotic. Turbochargers in my mind are cheating, no doubt they are the way forward but I`ll hang on to naturally aspirated anachronisms for as long as possible thanks.

Got to be the Ferrari for me, a screaming 9000RPM max power all without the use of a hairdrier!

Just been on the 458 and 12C online configurators.

Made the dream version of each.

Ferrari wins hands down for appeal.

You would probably respect the 12C...... but you would love the 458. That is the difference.

BOY WHAT A GREAT ESPRIT THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN....

Concerning the looks: its a connaisseurs car. I love it this way. Not everyone feels comfortable in a melodramatically screaming Lambo- oder Fezzamachine. This or DBS does it for me.

Personally I think some aspects of the 12C already looks a little dated/classic; rear like an NSX prototype, side air intakes like so many 'new' supercars we've seen here, where the 458 looks more cutting edge-though I'm unconvinced of the front and rear. Those winglets, LEDs and triple exhausts will probably look very 2010 soon (wonder what changes will be made here on the next model?)
£170k to spend? I'll take the Daytona thanks smile

I do wonder how many people prefer the Mclaren just because its British.

If you just compare the cars. The consensus is the Ferrari is better looking but by no means a dealbreaker. The Mclaren is probably slightly faster but the Ferrari is only .1 second off an Enzo round the TG track, so i hardly think anyone will be disappointed with the speed.

The Ferrari just seems a more 'PH' car. There are constant threads on these boards lamenting the decline of large capacity N/A engines. So it seems odd that the majority of people would rather have the smaller engine'd turbo car than the 9000rpm N/A screaming Ferrari V8. Likewise people are stating Co2 as a reason to opt for the Mclaren yikes what is happening to this place?!

It's British...so? The other is Italian what is the argument here?
Faster, on paper, by 2 miles per hour and 0.3 secs...hardly an achievement considering the two blowers giving more BHP. Less fuel...by a bit.
It's bespoke? It might be but its looks are poor. It's very dated, very 90s.
It has a bit of Honda on the rear, 360 on the front, Lotus on the side and ridiculous air intakes.
The fact that Alonso drives one appeals to me more than Ham and Butt in the McLaren.
I could go ON and ON...smile
More special than visiting a Ferrari dealer?! More friendly? What the heck?
I say MASSIVE CHIP on shoulder! wink
