Fantastic shed. I ran a 3.2 Sport version from 50K to 125K miles without any major problems. Until I sold it. In order to beef the Ebay ad up I said I would get the aircon running cold. Assumed it just needed a re-gas. Wrong wrong wrong. Whole new radiator. Then, I had the engine bay steam cleaned. That knackered one of the coils, so it started mis-firing (something it had never done before). So when the winning buyer turned up, he came with his mate who 'knew all about Jags'. We went out for the test drive, and I crossed my fingers it wouldn't mis-fire. All was well as I drove, then the buyer took over, with me in the passenger seat and Mr Jag in the back. First time he accelerated it mis-fired, and we all did the Wayne's World neck jerk. I wait to hear what is going to be said, at which point Mr Jag in the back says "Don't worry, they all do that". Sale complete, everybody happy.....

SOTW Orgasm. If I could get insurance on that for less than the price of a new supermini, I would be into that quicker than superman.
Does Superman like Jags then? wink

Also - in my personal opinion, I think that these X300 XJR / Sport models have some of the best interiors ever fitted to a Jagaur.

My old 3.2 Sport had off-white breathable sports leather, with ash black effect wood trim. It was one of the nicests interiors I have had in any car.
My BIL's Sport has that interior. It really looks and feels fabulous - it's chsurch quite when wafting and there are no creaks or rattles.

OK - not as well put together as a W140, but, still feels special
I was suprised at how well put together his one felt. I was expecting to be disappointed but was happy to be very wrong.

That's a lot of car for the money, even if it needed a bit to get through the MOT.

Remember driving the V8 XJR some years back. Was at a corporate event at the Victoria Jungfrau in Interlaken. They used to have one for guests to drive (for free). You only had to pay for the fuel. Naturally I booked a slot for an afternoon when we had a hour or so free from meetings and found some local, twisty roads to play on. Was amazed how much fun it was to drive and how quick it was in a straight line. But was most gob-smacked when I got the bill for the petrol as it hadn't even managed to get into double figures on the MPG..... still - it was worth it smile)

Whilst probably this isn't in the spirit of SOTW (its only an XJ8 and not an XJR!) have a gander at this.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2011...

I've kept an eye on 'Xj's for a while and since petrol has gone crazy their prices seemed to have almost halfed. If only LPG conversions were cheaper... (and LPG iself was cheaper - its about 80p per litre around here now).

Think I'd be tempted by this! Run it into the ground, then break!

But... For £3k it looks like you can get a beauty... And XK8's are available for £4k....
Hmmmm, I do only live 6 miles from work, sorely tempting!!

Great SOTW!!

The idea of a straight six in a Jag sits easier with me than the modern Jag phenomena of a V8.
Totally agree, a six is just better in a Jag, not sure why, but probably that V8s are a bit vulgar & unnecessary in a classy cruiser like a Jag, keep em for the Yank tanks & brash M3's... I'm gonna duck now !

Are you speaking from experience or is there something you are not telling us? wink
Experience of buying a project saxo that '12 months MOT' on it.

After pulling it apart for track prep, it was clear to see that it wouldnt have passed an MOT, having no catalytic convertor & half the ABS system ripped out would have made sure of that ...

Ermm maybe because it's advertised for only £1000 and you'd likely get it for £800-900 cash if you haggled. confused
But with such a short MOT it's pretty much only worth what the scrapman will give for it.
Good grief, they moan if you SOTW with no MoT, and they moan if there IS a valid ticket.... moan moan moan.

Face it - this week's SOTW is a stonking bargain no matter which way you cut it - so long as the engine isn't wrecked, and so long as it hasn't been parked in the sea all year. I'd buy it, if I had the money going spare.

Mind you, I _am_ mad...

I don't, I can't stand that Mike whassisname, he drives me mad. And as for some of the cars they do on the program? Some Euro stbox; buy for a grand, spend a grand on it, sell it for 1200.... mad. Oh, and I bet even when they do make a notional profit, they only manage it because they don't count labour).

Fairly pointless SOTW if you ask me. If this thing keeps running for the two months until the MOT expires I'll be amazed. If it does it will never pass the test at which point you weigh it in for maybe £300. £350 a month in depreciation makes a new one look cheap...
Really can't agree at all. Thing it's a quite an absurb comment to make too, unless you've actually been and looked at said vehicle.

Why should it break down within 2 months?

Why should it not pass an MoT?

Btw - in 1999 I bought a V12 XJS for £700. It never failed an MoT that I can recall and was used regulary. Sold it in 2005 and it was still running fine. Fab car and a fab time owning and driving it. Can't see why it wouldn't be possible with an XJR.
As others have said - if it was going to pass an MOT the owner would have stuck one one and doubled the price. It's going to be going to the scrapyard in 2 months, the current owner is just trying to get an extra £700 for it as a result of some mug listening to people like you with their long shot 'I bought a £700 V12 XJS and it cost me peanuts' bullst.

Bl00dy 'eck - they want five large for something like that over here (even considering condition, a properly good one wil be nearer ten). Shame my Dad won't 'do' RHD... I could do with a Jag rolling resto/upgrade/demo project for WDR NL but 2 cars are more than enough for me here...

Except that in 300's defence he's talking about an experience he actually had, whereas you are making assumptions...

...for me the gamble is all part of the appeal. Yes, it probably will need a fair bit of work to get it MOT'd, but it might not. And that's what makes it so tempting (for me at least)

It's television - it's the same as Top Gear - it's for entertainment.....

Ed China is a really nice guy and having met him and chewed the fat as well as been shown some of his projects I think his association with cheeky chappy Brewer probably doesn't do him any favours laugh

Anyway back to the Jag wonder if I could get the engine in a Monza and tie it to a getrag 265

Not in the books he didn't. Maybe in the awful Ridley Scott film...
Yes he did. That's how in Haniball the delightful Miss Starling lick started to track his movements once he fled Italy to the States after a messy late night meeting with Rinaldo Patzi and a floor polisher - he leased a black XJR.

Whilst in Italy he drove a MK 11 - also black.

He's me really... Fffffffffff
