As said by a few people though, I wish I could afford some of the cars people are calling "snotters". If it cost more than £1000 then it isn't a snotter.
.
I think "a snotter" is just below "a banger"
So if a banger is sub £1000
Then a snotter should be sub £500 territory ?
Them "posh" cars are not really snotters, adn don't belong in this thread.

I ve had a fair few snotters but this was my favourite. SJ410 van, mileage and service history unknown. Smelt of arse.
Sunroof had been removed and a metal plate siliconed over it, then the whole roof had been gelcoated. Badly.
I gave about £300 but in a moment of madness sold it on for twice that. Fantastic vehicle.
Photos show before and after tonse up.

Must try and find a photo of my £350 Vauxhall Cavalier. That did me 60,000miles. It only needed a set of brakes and a 2nd hand idle speed controller.

Picked this 1.25 Fiesta up as a run around until my insurance runs out at Xmas, where i'll hopefully have 3 years NCB.
Brilliant little cars, slightly small for someone tall but does the job.

I've also noticed something rather odd about these cars, the alloy wheels NEVER get dirty. They're always spotless, no dust, grime, nothing.

Would be funny if another owner noticed this too. biggrin

I had one as a 1st car. Very nice.

My wheels never really got dirty, compared to other cars.

loving this thread and relieved to see i'm not the only one that "bought a cheap banger to run round in" but still fell foul of treating it like an expensive motor.

I used to have one of these. They do drive well but shame the rear arches rot like fury

I'm thinking a:
Banger is sub £1500
Snotter sub £1000

There are some great snotters in this thread. Really like the two Alfas.

Mine is rather put to shame, but here it is....

1996 Nissan Micra 998 Auto.

One elderly lady owner, 38,000 miles, 12 months MOT and fully serviced for £275.

Still on its original exhaust, but there is rot in the sills and front crossmember.

Surprisingly pleasant to drive. Great in traffic, happy at an indicated 80mph. 45mpg. Even has power steering.

This is my third K11 Micra. They make fantastic snotters.

I'd say it was the other way around. Banger implies really, really dirt cheap and on it's last legs, i.e. a £150 escort with 1 months MOT left on it!

A snotter is a more affectionate name for a sub £1k 'bangernomics' car that you enjoy owning, but don't care about overly much. IMO.
I'd say different again, with a 'Shed' being £1000 or less, a 'snotter' being £500 (maybe £650) or less, and a banger being worth barely more than its scrap value, say £100 to £200.

Yes,
Now I can agree this is more suited.
£1000 or less = Shed
£500 or less = Snotter
£200 or less = Banger

Now lets all try keep maybe to some guides?

According to the numptys who loved the scrappage scheme all 10 year old cars are bangers. Of course this is absolute bollarks.

hehe

There isn't a single F355 that's less than a decade old for instance...

Speaking of snotters, I've just come back from selling a car to a chap with a Volvo 940 he needs rid of. 2.3 auto, silver with black half-leather, FSH - with the local Volvo dealer (who also supplied it) up to a mere 180k, now on 225k. Last cambelt was less than 2 years ago and done as the head gasket failed at 212k miles (a pipe split on a ferry and the engine lost its oil). So an overhaul was carried out and now she drives like an absolute peach.

I just found my next snotter I think. In 3 years I'd have that up to 300k miles. Tempting... biggrin
