Amazing how a Lada can generate this much emotion getmecoat

Still a lot of offroad capability for the money and i imagine these are very easy and cheap to fix even compared to a LR.

And as for having a pop at someone for driving a Volvo, at least he's listed his cars. Not put some bks about owning all sorts of exotica.

Back to school (or maybe Dale Farm) with ya, kiddo. You've made yourself look a bit of a plonker, especially with the Unimog line... smile

Not really got much of an opinion on these, went in one, briefly, once and it seemed crude but effective, someone suggested it as a winter hack, would rather get stuck for a few days.

At the time this had a decent reputation, mainly because the "Asia Rocsta" was so st.

Clear photo shop, there is grass there, wet I wouldn't wonder. There is no way all of those Eastern European tin boxes could have got on that hill. wink

My dad farmed in Kent. An old Niva was supplied by the owner of the farm for offroad use only. It had a Dutch number plate.
It was red with holes in the sills but it never broke down or got stuck. In the stupendous snow of 87 (?) we took a chance and got taken to school in it. It was one of the few cars to be seen. It had solid aluminium beams for bumpers and very little overhang.

Great SoTW - started a riot!

Ah but what you can't see is the steeper hill cut off to the right of the photo with a couple of dozen Defenders at the top looking down at the Nivas. Or perhaps not. wink

Massive respect for these.

Real, no bull off roaders.
Agree.

A few years back I took my old Range Rover on an off roading day in Wales. Some guys turned up with one of these on the back of a trailer. Won off ebay for £500. The thing was unstoppable smile

Nope, not at all smile

You've had plenty of accounts of Nivas being bloody good. You admit that your experience of them is a little drive on a field in Gloucestershire or somesuch, and you have no awareness of one of the greatest off-roaders ever. Various ex-owners have given accounts of them being very good and all you can do is start stamping your feet and shouting "troll". You then try and have a pop at people by slating what they drive - when you have conveniently not got anything in your garage, just a photo of a 993 that as far as we know is direct from Google.

You've been warned about your stroppiness by 2 mods, and all you can do is bleat something along the lines of "they started it". Well, "they" didn't. It's got nothing to do with being a keyboard/Internet warrior. It's to do with an apparent numpty on the internet who has taken a disliking to a Lada, and realised that he is in the vast minority - and wrong, to boot.

Whilst reading your responses has made me laugh, I can't be arsed to keep indulging you. As many have said, "Do not feed the troll".

Enjoy your 993.

ETA I'm 2 counties away from Norfolk. Just like I'm 2 counties away from Buckinghamshire. Your point being? You're still making yourself look a bit of a chopper.

I like the ones in the cavity and the hill is clearly grassy and wet. I assume they didnt reverse up the hill and have drove over it...........................

a picture says it all, no doubt LR's are probably better but these are capable probably even more so with an experienced off road driver.

I'd say the Panda is more of an even match for the Niva than you think.
I said different league, as in what they are ultimately capable of. The Panda is a very good I agree and as a general purpose get most places vehicle it is highly capable.

But in all reality, I can't see a Panda coping with terrain like this at all:

As for the technical answer, there wasn't a technical answer to give. The defender was/is just a superior off roader.
No, there is either no technical answer because they are the same, or you don't know it (which is fine, but then don't try and claim something else smile )

Go around the world in hard to reach places & ask why they use LR & Toyota & not a Lada
I suspect if you venture across the ex-Soviet block you won't see many LR's at all and a heck of a lot more Lada's.

Also, how do own one & a half LRs?
My Disco has donated some major organs to my Series 3. But I've still got some bits left. biggrin

I saw several 5 door Nivas in St Petersburg a few years ago. Were they local "stretches" or standard production models? Anyone know?
