RE: SOTW: Hyundai Coupe V6
Discussion
Best SOTW...kinda dissapointed I had to sell mine, cracking car!
This is very very tempting! Bought mine for £9995 back in 2004/2005 and sold it in early 2006 to a dealer for £8495. 6 Years later, I can now afford one again lol.
Shame its now sold...will keep looking! Still looks more car than the Grand price tag to me.

My friends and I all have SOTW contests each week to see if we can guess what it's going to be.....today one of them says to me "ha-ha have you seen SOTW?" ...... To my delight I find that it is in fact my car, or should I say my wife’s, or even more accurately, was my wife’s car.
This car has now been sold and has been collected; I received a text from the buyer: "Would just like to thank you for a very good car mate, very pleased with it".
This genuinely was a cracking little car, i bought it to replace a Ford Puma which was coming up to MOT time last May. I have put in a new stereo, replaced the rear discs and had it MOT'd. It didn’t owe me anything so why not sell it reasonably so someone else can enjoy it.
I have to admit I too was/am a badge snob and did struggle with the thought of this car's badge at first, however I have to admit that the car was a pleasure to own and drive and never once let me down. The same goes for my Wife who also thoroughly enjoyed it.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s no sports car nor is it frugal (approx. 22-26MPG) but for a Grand………a genuine bargain. Someone has a very very good and cheap car out there now…..I hope he enjoys it.

- Note** Pistonheads should make a line of “My car was once SOTW” T-Shirts, I’d buy one
22-26 mpg sounds reasonable for a 2.7 V6 (depending on journey type)
I must admit I'd never consider one even though I have a thing for coupes - I've got one on my drive now that I must get round to selling (Mitsi FTO)

Sub 20mpg?!? ![yikes](/inc/images/yikes.gif)
I can imagine it. When I drove one, I was watching the "instant" MPG gauge on the dash, and I don't remember seeing it above 20 very often at all ![yikes](/inc/images/yikes.gif)

Is the Hyundai made of lead?

Why so bad? I have a Corrado VR6 which has a comparable, if slightly greater, set of figures for capacity power and performance which will get high 20's even when I go out for a blast and low 30s on a long run.

No idea... but my 328 would have run rings around it for handling, performance and economy. However, you wouldn't get one with that mileage, in that condition for anywhere near a grand. Is the Hyundai made of lead?
Chaps, ..re rated BHP levels..?...as examples..(of similar ages - late 90's/early 00's...not meant as direct comparisons..)
Mitzi 2.5 V6 (Galant etc) = 165BHP
BM 2.5 6 (3 & 5 series etc) = 170BHP
Audi 2.8 6 (whichever ones!) = 193BHP , same as the BM 2.8
Volvo 2.5v, 20v, 5 cyl = 170BHP....
...etc etc... in other words Hyundai, while not the most powerful, arent out the ballpark, in comparison to other normally aspirated, similar capacity engines...
On the other hand my T5.... and others....nuvver story.....(eg Mitzi 2 x turbo V6 4wd 'VR4' etc...280BHP..)

Top shed. A good looking car. Announced the arrival of Hyundai as a serious car maker (in my eyes).
A lot badge snobbery here - the same type of snobbery killed Rover!
Come on , it was poor management and badly engineered cars based on out dated technology that killed them. the badge snobs left a long time ago.A lot badge snobbery here - the same type of snobbery killed Rover!
I people that buy on badges, it makes the hidden gems cheap.
For a cheap run about it makes a lot of sense, as long as you understand it will be sub 20mpg.

Sub 20? Jesus H, I get 18mpg out of a 6 litre DB7,19 mpg out of a 2.3 tonne E55 AMG. You must have had your foot velcroed to the carpet! (Either that or sat in gridlock all day)

Steviegunn as a fellow Puma owner I think you should hang your head in shame for considering 'this' as a worthy successor.
Tsk tsk
[Told off]It's all about the looks and at the same price point as the uglier Cougar, probably more reliable than a 406 coupe, have to say a Gen 7 Celica is tempting too as is a good (read hard to find) Fiat Coupe. I admit I've not driven a Hyundai Coupe (that experience may change my mind very quickly as my last 10 years of motoring has been MX-5s, Classic Rangie winter barge and now the not so "stop gap" Puma), though in the past I have owned a 2.8i Capri and a 2.8i Celica/Supra, so have history with 6 cyl wafty barge like coupes.[/Told off]Tsk tsk
I like it, but would not consider buying a v6, it would drink like mad. And I think it looks good. The pub manager I worked for still probably owns it.
And there plenty on the net running 400bhp on tvs1900, bonkers!![clap](/inc/images/clap.gif)

Bolt a big turbo to it and deal with the brick s
tting handling and you won't be too embarrassed by an Enzo it seems...
Used to own an older frog eyed 1.6
Interior isn't too bad for what it is. 20MPG is possible if you're pushing in them, they aren't quick by any means. But they're reasonable fun to hustle.
