I love how 25k is considered cheap.

I'm definately in the wrong line of work it appears frown

The GT86 was my fave car at the mo, until I saw this...

The stripped one appeals to me a lot more. I'd rather save the money on a headunit and buy my own to the style and spec I want, same with the alloys. Wouldnt take a day at the bodyshop to get the bumpers coloured in.

Only real shame is the cheap rear diff. The tuners and drifters might put a better than GT-spec on in, but the average joe isnt going to go to that kind of effort with it, and miss out on part of the experience.

Instant buy for me if this came to the UK, love it.

I've never used air-con and haven't switched a stereo on in my car for about 5 years, it's my ideal car!

I appreciate I'm in a very very small minority in the UK though, it always saddened me how slowly the Megane R26.R sold here, had I been in a better position financially I would have snapped one up.

Toyota need to bring this over here NOW!

If they could get close to 16k, or even just under 19, they would certainly have me banging on the showroom door.

Love to keep it on the unpainted bumpers and steel wheels, totally unpretentious.

I can imagine the confused looks on the faces of types who think an S-line Audi is the pinnacle of motoring.....

Speculators should be buying these and putting them straight into storage.

In a few years time, these base models, unmodified with 0 mileage will be worth alot.

how does this compare in price to the japan cost of the version we get? i'd be surprised if it saves more than 5k. still its refreshing to see a manufacturer charge less for the stripped out version, maybe porsche, mini and renault could follow suit?
Renault already do this on the Clio at least, not sure about the Megane. Their proper Cup versions are cheaper, for instance the 172 Cup was £2-3k cheaper iirc.

I'd like to get the usual spec model, then change the bumpers and wheels so it looks like the cheaper poverty spec car. That way i get to enjoy my tunes and air con (40kg after all isn't worth getting too excited about) and everyone will think its cool.

I'm not sure that makes it cool anymore!

There is something really appealing about the stripped out model!

I suspect most of the people that think its 'cheap' at 25k might be thinking about lease deals...

I'd imagine you will be able to lease one for around £350 a month. But of course this may be missing the point as i doubt you would be able to track it (due to lease company rules?) and you wont be able to mod it.....which i believes takes away most of the attraction of a car like this!

Brilliant idea. If Toyota could offer a car like that for 16k I'd buy it. It would make the whole thing so much more affordable.

A stereo and speakers cost £500 for some fairly good stuff, new wheels and tyres around £800 for decent ones, keep the steelies for winter. So for a car like that it would be around £17500. You can swap diff and paint bits whenever you've got the money afterwards.

£25000 is far to much for me but this would be managable.

Or anwhere near as cost effective... however if 2 of you pooled together, got one full spec and one poverty then swapped the bumpers and wheels (and wing mirrors and door handles?), you could both be happy!

I'm amazed that Toyota seem to be selling the car for the same price in UK as in Japan.

Japanese cars were always more expensive in UK after shipping, VAT etc which paved the way for grey imports. There won't be much incentive to import these, except for the RC.

Any ideas on likely cost of the RC in UK? I guess around £19k.

Try finding a low mileage, standard AE86 in Japan now. You'll easily be looking at £50k!

The same goes for S13 180sx's, immaculate low mileage ones go for more than they were new!
