You used to be able to get a valve-kit for the Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 raising the rev limiter to 12500 RPM

75% E30 M3 i'd call worthless shiny sheds because they are rotten underneath and missing M3 specific bits and bobs along its life also lacking in regular up keep.

On that basis i feel a solid example with history all the M3 parts and trim is worth 40-50k all day long.

Its a real shame like mk1 mk2 Escorts increased in value because of its motorsport heritage most owners automatically assumes regardless of condition is worth 40k+ when infact its not.

P/X'd this Cecotto about 10yrs ago, the stealer bid me £7,500 plus I gave him £7k toward the new purchase, the guy reckoned he was doing me a favour toofurious.
Within approx 10mins of driving it home I knew i'd made a massive massive mistakefrown, originally went there to buy an Escort Cosworth but came home with this. Never take your other half with you when you buy a car!!!

The prices are mental for these now..
My problem with M-cars is that they seem to rot in a nearly alfaesque style..
They are simply not as well-built as porches and mercs of old..

The train for M3`s have left the station IMO, I would look to 2.3-16s now.. brilliant cars and better ride quality than the bmw..
Was thinking the same last year, I asked this and got almost no response !

I bought one, a 2.5-16 six or seven years ago while on the hunt for a modern German classic, E30 M3 included. I am still to this day delighted with it and hard that this maybe for some to believe it's a better car in many, many ways than the M3 - not knocking the M3 just stating what a lot of those in the know will tell you. Still, ideally I'd like an M3 too along with a few other motors from that era.

falkster,

my 968 CS is black, its about to have KW V3 Dampers fitted come May, but I'm seriously considering selling it and getting the Evo6 RSX or the STI V6 Type-R Coupe, both are in mint condition and remind me of one of the biggest regrets I made, selling the 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL I had back in 98, I see it now and then with the guy I sold it to who restored it and uses it as a daily driver.
that csl (stunning cars) is probably worth 50k now....but we can't lament the cars we once owned and what they are worth now. I sold a mint 1971 911 2.2s for 16k about 10 years ago and thats worth way north of 65k now...actually scrap the rubbish I wrote about not lamenting those cars...I wish I still had it!!

I can understand upgrading to what at the time seems like a good idea, but from E30 M3 to a MK4 GTI... just no : hehe:

I'd be kicking myself everyday!!
We've all done things we regret and there's probably been a thread about it. He was probably thinking he was upgrading and his mk4 golf probably drove awesome in comparison as a daily.

I remember years and years ago (I'm an old fart) I got to a point when buying a car where I was trying to decide between a TVR 350I, a 1.9 205 GTi and an E30 M3.
The TVR and BM were roughly the same price, around 6K and the 205 was around 4k.
I decided the 205 was the better option at the time due to the lower purchase price and running costs.

That decision has haunted me ever since.
I could have had one....I could actually have had one.
With prices as they are now there is no chance.

I went looking for an E30 M3 last year, heart was set on an Evo2 but whichever way I looked at it couldn't justify the £25-35k price tag attached to all of them. Ended up seeing an 87 D plater, an Evo 1, and got it for just over £10k. Condition wise, I'd say it's on a par with the Evo 2s I was looking at that were 3 times the money. Guess I got lucky with it but shows there are some nice cars out there still for not huge money...
