Pugsey, I don't believe you.

"Ferret around" - Post the links yourself.
"Various" businesses - What?
"Friends" on PH "who know me" - That's what the others said. Who?

You raced at the Nordschleife, but don't know the corner names? I don't believe you.

You're an "old fart"? So am I. How old? You were recently searching for a mint Impreza "from your youth". That puts you as late-30s max. I have a mint P1; we might have something to talk about.

Another "Last post on the subject" and I'll assume you are a liar and a fantasist and other PH'ers can make of that what they will.

You have nothing to lose. Prove I'm an idiot. I do it by myself most of the time. smile

Yes, I was aware of that! Let's see if Pugsey has the balls and grace to do the same.

Can someone summarize this thread, will the Nurburgring be closing or not?

I doubt it, for the most part its a strip of tarmac. A circuit with a large infield would be far more at risk, I think.

I think Pugsey is what we called people like him in the Army , a 'WALT' i.e. Walter Mitty

And according to the FAZ, too:
http://www.faz.net/-gqe-71ffg

The article further comments that in case of insolvency, jobs will be lost, the F1 Grand Prix and Rock am Ring might not happen in future.

Politicians already checked reversing the Nürodisney earlier this year, and apparently, the roller coaster is well recyclable smile

True enough - you couldn't make a theme park work there, there's not a lot else that would work there. As an automotive test facility it's probably a viable concern anyway, it's just a question of whether it'll be open to the public.

What's the going rate for second hand rollercoasters? Not more than six figures I'd have guessed?

I've got a feeling recouping enough money to make more than a tiny dent in the four hundred something euro mountain of debt will be a bit of a challenge... Dumm gelaufen, eben.

Apparently, he's got a Jaguar F-Type on order too.

I think it highly likely TF will continue:

a) it has been in place since the ring opened in 1927;
b) it is very cheap to run and brings in a ton of money

They were calculating scrap value biggrin Cost for the deconstruction predicted at €5m...€8m by socialist politicians, so make that around €16m

Hmmm, I think I'd prefer the French solution then... abandon the complex and let it become one with nature over time... costs nothing and it gives future generations something to mull over. It's not like there's an acute shortage of building space in the Eifel region, anyway.

I cannot imagine what the future holds, but its a sorry situation. Richter and Lindner must be pariahs there now deservedly.

With insurance issues being ore and more critical the touristenfahrten has become a bit more problematic any way compared to the old days. I have now only gone when I pick up a new car on Euro delivery which includes three weeks insurance, so a week of running in followed by a week at the track. I was looking forward t0 2013, so hopefully things will be clearer by then. I fee sorry for the local businesses though.

How proud of the ring is the German nation? If they think it's an important part of their country then I'm sure they wouldn't let it die.
Not every German is a petrolhead unfortuantly, and not every german head who likes his cars likes to race them.

I can't say any of my friends of family over there have ever wanted to go there, and some are quite into motorsport and fast cars.

Having said that, it does have unique appeal and many germans use, so I can't see the ring itself ever being out of use for a long time.

this completely misses the point that they didn't authorise the massive unnecessary investment/s but their company managed it. the muppets in the RLP government bear 99% of the responsibility in my opinion and for once, i agree with Mike Frison:

"Who is it actually in person to blame that huge disaster?

It’s too many to list, but Kurt Beck (the RLP premier) is the main figure in that plot. Local and county politicians come next along with all these greedy suits."
