£16.5k in UAE for base spec (damn taxman).. Import by Litchfield, tune/charger.. £25k -doable?

The base model starts at Dhs 95,000 for a 6-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip diff. Standard features include cloth sports seats, halogen headlights, fog lamps, CD/MP3 stereo, Bluetooth, manual a/c, common power accessories and 16-inch alloy wheels with 205/55 tyres, as well as a stability control system with three modes, ABS and a full set of front, side, curtain and knee airbags.

The next model is exactly the same as above, but for Dhs 100,000, it comes with 6-speed automatic version, without paddle-shifters and without a limited-slip differential.

The mid-range model retails for Dhs 115,000, and comes with an automatic with paddle-shifters, a limited-slip diff, auto a/c, HID headlights, smart keyless entry with starter button, extra digital speedo, cruise control and 17-inch alloys with 215/45 tyres.

The top model, for Dhs 125,000, additionally gets a coloured front grille and rear bumper garnish, some tacked-on fins on the C-pillar, leather upholstery, and floor illumination.

There will be a full TRD body kit offered eventually that will cost extra.

At the risk of lag
Is this a default phrase when trying to slate turbos?? With a good modern turbo lag would be negligible anyway and if you have lag, its really easy, change gear!!
How on earth would changing gear improve throttle response?

Are you mistaking boost threshold for lag?

Wow, you've driven a lot of very current cars. I'm guessing you work in the industry or summat.
I'm guessing he is talking out of his arse!
No, no, let's not be too hasty. He could work in the industry as an engineer or something and have a legitimate need to drive all of those vehicles.

It's not like he puts on a shiny polyester blend suit and takes his little Boxster round to all the dealers asking for a part-ex deal and test drive. That would be quite sad, although most on here would say it's a perfectly acceptable way to spend your Sunday afternoon!

About time.

When this first came out I said on this forum how its under-powered and boring (spare me the 'back-to-basics'/'it's a purists' car' rhetoric) and all I got was how it's not about speed (forget for a moment the fact that PH's motto is 'speed matters'). And now look - they're bringing out a turbo charged 280bhp rear wheel drive coupe (what it should have been in the first place).

Oh, how the tables turn...

That would make it worse because you'd have to come off the throttle to do so?

I had VX220, very close performance to an S2 190 - lighter and more torque less outright power. Not a chance in the world any 1200Kg 200bhp car would come near, vastly larger braking distances, lower corner speed and slower acceleration.

Except for my old s1 elise the gt86 is the most rewarding car I've had, I think a turbo might ruin it for me. With a turbo would you still have that clear sense of the level of traction of all four tyres?

Shock news! Car manufacturer to develop varient of new model! Dear god what utter drivel this story and thread are. There will be a turbo version of both cars, they will be great, well liked by the press and impove sales firgures across the range, armchair critics will continue to sprout sh!t comments across the world - fact. QED.

There's a bit of a lack of powerful but affordable RWD coupes so I like the sound of it.

How so? You said the BRZ is every bit as quick - absolutely sure it wouldn't be. If we are talking fun - I'm sure a BRZ wouldn't be as fun and precise as an Elise. I admit I prefer the quick reactions of mid engined stuff. Got bored with a 265bhp MX5, have more fun in my 190bhp Mk3 MR2.
