This is the only car I've spun in my adult life.
At trackdays it was always S2000's that were facing the wrong way, even in experienced hands and with geo/tyres sorted.
My incredibly adept instructor spun, my mates spun, I spun, he spun, she spun, everyone's a spun spun.
Epic engine, tiny cabin, barstool seat height, silly dash, iffy chassis and an 'I'm too serious' demeanour.
That's why the PH answer is always MX5 not S2000.
None of you were doing it right At trackdays it was always S2000's that were facing the wrong way, even in experienced hands and with geo/tyres sorted.

Yeah I can see that Honda really should have upped the priorities of cabin noise and motorway cruising ability when designing this 9000rpm screaming redline convertible...
Dont just pick out that bit, the thing that let it down for me was it should be a hoot to drive sideways and its just not able to do that, I've never found that a problem in any of my other 200-350 bhp rwd cars just the S2000 was no fun to jump in and slide (I could do it but was not pleasant to do).Your preference on it's driving and engine is your opinion and you're more than entitled.

If I ever buy one again I'll be sure to be ham fisted and spin it at every opportunity, in fact to make it more dramatic I'll get a load of people to spin it as well.

So, 944 S2 to S2000, should I change ?
I had 944 turbo Se at the same time as my S2000, the 944 turbo has it covered in every respect apart from age related issues. 944 S2 less so as lacks LSD and is a bit soft but handling and steering are on a different planet to an S2000 ie far better. You will also miss the nice spread of power from low down the 3.0 gives whereas the s2000 is nothing nothing then wow then change gear again.Urban Sports said:
Actually yes you are right, it was filmed on a cold day on a slight bend and I didn't spin, I must have been doing it wrong

No offence Urban, I was joking but it just didn't demonstrate any extra intake/exhaust noise. If I ever buy one again I'll be sure to be ham fisted and spin it at every opportunity, in fact to make it more dramatic I'll get a load of people to spin it as well.
I used to live 500yds from a mile long tunnel and doing the old 'air filter removal' trick and nailing it in second would make my ears bleed.
I'm sure yours sounded lovely but that vid doesn't capture it.
What do you drive now?

240hp from 2.0L was good, but the Renesis engine in the RX-8 made 230hp from just 1.3L of swept volume.
advantage Renesis.
except we're not supposed to compare it with poppet valves....
of course the ultimate power/displacement engines in cars are F1 engines - staggering numbers, although they may find doing 100k miles a tad difficult......
Then compare crank rotations and we're back to even. I'm not sure I recall a Mazda rotary being that good for 100k for that matter either advantage Renesis.

10 RX-8's on Ebay right now with over 100k (one with 153k).
In comparison if you filter off the older S2000's to make it even (so no older than 2003) there are 5 S2000's on Autotrader with over 100k and only 2 on ebay.
But lets not let facts get in the way, the S2000's probably ended up backwards through a hedge before they made 100k.

An S2000 engine would be my engine of choice in the Westfield. Throttle bodies and a light weight flywheel and perhaps some fast road cams (not forgetting a dry sump!) and it would be awesome. Not fussed on the S2000 itself having been in one as a passenger.
Getting quiet popular especially for a limited run engine only fitted to the S2000Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
