RE: Citroen AX at the 'ring: Time For Tea?
Discussion
The shear total commitment here is what gets me - the commitment to the car, putting so many new engines and gearboxes in it, sticking with it, knowing that car and driver can do it; and the commitment out on track, flying into corners so fast and knowing you'll get round..
Big brass ones he has, big brass ones. ..

Madness, but also bloody amazing! Slightly of topic but my drives 2 work mean over 1000+ down same roads I've been known 2 show up some much faster cars by knowing every detail & seize overtaking opportunites, that jus leaves struggling. He clearly had the lines sussed! Top smoking on a budget, fond memories of the 2 years with my AX GT in early nineties

Jonny - Did you never sit in a school minibus? They always sounded like they were going to explode!
We had LDV Convoys when I was at school. Lucky if they even started!Edited by drakart on Thursday 30th January 22:39
Maybe it's just the distorted audio from watching on a phone, but that AX seemed to have an unexpectedly decent rasp to it rather than just the usual clattery racket of a wrung-out, old fashioned four pot diesel.

It's rare for me to watch a 'ring vid from start to finish, it's even rarer for me to read a thread this long and not find a comment that irritates me.
Epic effort, fantastic result. Well done that man. Loving the support that's being shown here. I almost have a tear welling up in my eye.

...and nobody's yet commented on the shot of the speedo/dash at the end?
The odometer reads 689,000-odd km. That's 430,000 miles. And, no, there isn't a decimal point in between digits five and six.
WT actual flying F?!?!?

Superb video. Not usually one for watching 'ring videos all the way through!
Hopelessly shít car, fantastic piece of driving. Who needs an M5 to have fun... oops, let's not open THAT can of worms AGAIN! Re the relevance or otherwise of Ring laps: when they are used as a marketing slogan/online troll argument in favour of a particular car, that's when they're irrelevant. All this is about is a bit of old-fashioned man-in-shed tweaking and some incredibly brave driving. It's not trying to sell or win anything. It's just pure, abstract achievement.

So he took 118 goes to get sub-10, and when he does, it's by 5 seconds?
Doesn't seem particularly consistent lapping!
I think the fact that its a very long, open circuit, coupled with a distinct lack of power (and therefore the slightest mistake in losing momentum could easily cost 5 secs in regaining the speed), and he's doing it on TF days (so has to account for others mistakes) and he also seemed to be driving very considerately. Doesn't seem particularly consistent lapping!
Plus, 118 laps of the ring isn't that many.
