Mr Goodwin, what a thoroughly pleasant and knowledgable bloke indeed.
Couldn't agree more. His general understanding of the car's intended use and performance made the video for me.

He should be running the road car program!

Stunning car, awesome video... Made 30 minutes feel like only 2 - that's when you know it was good

Er, i think if you were to talk to some of the actual engineers on the project you would consider it to be in safe hands as it stands!

A great video no doubt - but the car sounded rather dull frown, I understand it's the 'ultimate' etc, but i'd have one of the very many other supercars from Chris's previous videos (or any merc with an AMG engine!).

The old Veyron Harris video from autocar made much more of an impression on me

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddBrgMHrg7E

5:20 on... reminds me why I like the Veyron, I love this video. I think it illustrates why the P1 differs from a Veyron. The P1 needs to be taken to a track to be 'amazing'. I don't want a car that has to be driven on track. In fact I hate cars that need to be driven on track to show off their abilities.

Wow....

Usually bored to tears by the tech chat as it doesnt interest me. This however does so i watched all the tech chat before the laps on the track.

Its incredible. Love the car, the noise, the way it can be thrown around the way Chris was with the traction control off.

Stunning car.

Better than the 918? Maybe, maybe not.

Frankly i dont care because if we get more cars like this to watch & drool over the better.

It does appear that McLaren have raised the bar. Again. I'm guessing that, with all the cars sold, Ron must be feeling quite smug at the moment.

What next i wonder? How the hell do McLaren improve on the P1?

As for Harris..... His video's are compulsive viewing, his technical knowledge is superb - no auto-cues or scripted 'chat'. He does his homework & he knows what he is talking about, his in-car footage is second to none.

So. Harris should do Top Gear. On his own. Can you imagine how good it would be?

If only.

All we need now is for Harris to get his excitable hands on a P1, a 918 & LaFerrai (such a stupid name) at the same time & see which is the new daddy.

That would make an epic video.

If they've learned lessons from this and applied it to the 650S then I sure it'll be game set and match to Mclaren. Just how the F1 team can put in the same game changing performance. Well done Chris, great report.

Great video, but the Mclaren guy's waffle regarding the ring lap time must mean the car is surprisingly slow - why not give a simple time?
This.

He kind of dodged the question. "oh yes, yes... it's fast down the straight". Thanks for that. We'll await the unedited onboard GoPro lap in due course then. smile It's not CGs fault though. He's obviously under strict instructions not to divulge the time.

Be nice for Chris to mention SOMETHING he didn't like though. Don't care what it is. But reviews that are only ever positive are never quite there for me. Bit too Top Gear. Of course its faster than Veyron. But it's not as fast top end as F1. frown Surely Tyre tech hasn't gone backwards in the last 20 years?? In fact has anyone compared it in detail with F1 yet? Different cars, different eras. Any similarities?

Good video btw. Love the intro with Goodwin. Of course TG could never devote 28 mins to 1 car. (for shame!) All the "dontwatchtitthens" would complain there weren't any explosions or people falling over in a really unfunny way! laugh The car appears to be very colour dependent. Black seems to suit it far more than say the yellow one doing apparent long term testing. Don't like the "gizzards" as such. Looks a bit fussy. Makes me wonder how it will age over time.

How long before a P1-R version with over 1000bhp? wink

Chris: If you ever get a go in the LaFerrari, please dedicate 5 minutes of voiceover at the end to comparisons between the three cars. I was very surprised you didn't do P1 vs 918 having driven them, with this video. Appreciate the general excitement but really curious to know more about how those two/three cars compare. Not on facts, but subjectively.

As I said before, great content.

Slight shame that they had the hand held video camera on autofocus during the interviews. I suppose that is the difference between using a camera crew for broadcast (expensive) and using some blokes with a handycam for youtube vids.

Still, a very good effort for a non-broadcast production.

Love the car and the vid. One thing i want to know though, will MSO touch it for customers, or does it just come 'as is'?

And if they do, what will/can/do they do?

He didn't dodge the question. The question was whether the electric charge would last the course of the lap or not.

This was explained fully and clearly in the video.

No current tyre can do 240+ mph, 2g cornering, take 600kg of aero and still work on a wet street.

Great car, and a great Vid.
Im sure sometime in the future their will be tests of all the 3 hyper cars, for those feeling the need to judge them on their numbers. I will of course be intrigued by the results
For now like many i will judge them on all the stories and vids, and its the McLaren that has won me over.

Chris's videos increasingly remind me of the classic Fast Lane magazine; great writing (well, speaking) matched to polished visuals, presented in a way which is unfussy and relatively straight-forward, yet somehow still gets over the sensation of how a car feels to drive. Something no other TV show does.

Despite the best efforts of the US and EU regulators, alongside the Daily Mail and government transport people without a clue, cars seem to be going through a bit of an 80s style golden era at the moment. What with the P1, Jaguar's F-Type and Ford's Fiesta ST (clearly the spirit of the Pug 205GTi) we seem to have designers and engineers working in the industry who actually know how to design cars for drivers, rather than simply spending all the money on marketing. What is more, British engineers seem to be having a huge influence on this. 20 years ago I really would not have thought that UK automotive engineering would be in such a good place. Now all we need is TVR to reveal an absolute belter of a machine, oh and to make it in Blackpool. Well I can dream.

AWESOME........................

one question though - why the open diff and not an LSD? If you drive it like Chris was how hard is it working the rear brakes? I guess with 900Bhp both wheels spin anyway and you its not going to spin it all away on the inside wheel.

So the answer is that the p1 would not make a good lap because of the configuration of the car?

99% of PHers will never drive it. Ever.

Bit depressing that.
