I really don't get the comments about 'not washing until the spring' etc. I thought us 'Pistonheads' all appreciate our cars in some shape or from and would have a basic understanding of the damage that the salt and dirt will do if left on the car for months.

Here is my Clio RS 200 with its working diffuser biggrin (note the separation in the middle of the tunnels and up on each winglet)

Some only appreciate how they look, some only appreciate what they do.
And there are PHers everywhere in between these two points.

This what my C350e looked like after a week of setting up the Hafren stage on this year's Rally GB. Saw smallcar's Octavia during the recce too - looked the part!

Cheers,

Of course you had to!!!! Corrados have some of the worst headlights going and barely pass as reasonable with the uprated headlight loom & bulbs.

My Corrados have been washed , split rims removed, arches thoroughly cleaned , dehumidifier installed an parked up for a winter snooze,

This winter the BMW & Lexus are taking on the UK's worst weather... pics will follow...

From last year rather than this year because I don't have anything interesting and road legal at the moment.
Taken during a brief stop whilst on a hoon around Exmoor.

Yes it is. At least he looks like he's managed to get the washers pointing right so they actually help wash the window.

Mine are all over the place. No use at all.

Not a soap merchant, just a serial silent observer who has read too many detailing threads over the years!

(Edit) loses context when I didn't reply to the full quotes, i'm still learning!

I remember you too! Parked on the right at the end of the stage and we turned 90 left and on our way. Gave you a toot and a wave. Lovely photo! Assume you recovered the std Clio that holed its sump on the recce? All sorts doing it!

Does the paint not get scratches though?
Nah - only if you rub your hands on it. So when my mate started to write c... I was not particularly pleased.

Although it does surprise me how many PHers seem to appreciate their cars looking really dirty, as you say everyone has a different appreciation of cars.

I hate the idea of leaving road salt and other grim on my car for weeks let alone months at a time. Then again driving an early 00's Merc means rust is something to keep at bay so if removing the dirt regularly helps I'm all up for it. That said I hate my cars to be dirty anyway and I enjoy giving them a wash so it's all good haha.

The trick I tired the other day was to get one of those cable tie plastic with a metal core thingies, the kind of thing that comes wrapping up cables on consumer electronics and of which inexplicably I seem to have 1,000 in my garage. Using a cable stripper, took about 5cm off it and the remaining wire was just the right size to wiggle into the washers to clean them out and to position them appropriately.
