And that pic above this post - how dated does the E39 look now!
I saw one just the other day and couldn't believe what I was seeing, my brain was telling me the E39 looked dated, and not in a good way! To be fair it was in that navy blue rep spec and that silver one was never exactly an inspiration. Hopefully a nice Biaritz Blue, Calypso Red or Met Black one will role past me on the M-Parrallel 5 spokes tomorrow morning to restore my faith! As for the F10? Well, I like it. I like it a lot. It's handsome outside, stunning inside. I await the M Sport with interest. If its as good as I think it is, I've finally found a worthy replacement for my facelift E39 Sport.
it's such a shame. it looks so boring. the current 5 has finally grown on me a little bit it took long enough. this looks bland and boring. i'm sure it will like every other 5 series ever built, drive really well....but just look at it. it's such a shame. IMO, other than perhaps the Z4, the last good looking BMW series was probably the E46, especially the face lifted coupe. it's a shame. however, also a shame is that the other german competitors of audi and mercedes (especially audi) are following the same suit of rather boring. merc still have some nice lookers out there IMO.
i think the days of good looking 5er's is over, they were all fantastic up until and including the E39.

Looks superb IMHO a country mile better than the latest E-class.
There is one possible problem - size.
It might be my eyes and the perspective on this picture (see below), but the new 5 looks bigger (broader) again than the outgoing model. Casrs have been putting on size and weight since the eighties now and I really don't think it's the right way to go. Aside from the environmental issue (that I'd prefer to gloss over), weight always eventually shows up in handling and the size of cars is already an issue for people regularly needing to wedge their motor into the UK's miserly parking spaces.

The existing E60 isn't exactly a small car either -- in some parking spaces you can have both ends overhanging the front and rear of the space. But what that picture also shows is how clean the lines of all of the new model's predecessors are, and how fussy the new one is. Not only does it have all those creases and strakes down the sides, but across the bonnet too. For sure, the E60 is a bit slab-sided, but I prefer it. In fact, we bought it because we didn't like the E90/92 when it came to replacing our E46 coupe. Now the 5-series looks like the E90...There is one possible problem - size.
