Sorry, what?
Do you mean between the XKR 75 and the XKR-S?
Firstly, cocked up a little. It was meant as a reply to this post.Do you mean between the XKR 75 and the XKR-S?

So why is it the AM Vanquish with relatively out of date tech can break 200mph with a 'mere' 520bhp and the XKR-S with 542bhp can only 'manage' 186mph.
Do they not want to be treading too hotly on the heals of the AM DBS or do they simply need to go back to the wind tunnel?
I was quoting the difference between the standard car with the speed/black pack option, and the new XKR-S. Unless your daily commute includes a long stretch of autobahn, or you do regular track days at Le Mans, it's irrelevant.Do they not want to be treading too hotly on the heals of the AM DBS or do they simply need to go back to the wind tunnel?

The XKR 175 was a USA limited edition (similar to XKR75 in that regard but much less of a step up than the XKR 75)

I know it doesn't state in the press release, I get the feeling the car is 'limited' to 300kph..
That's what I was thinking. A car doesn't just magically top out at exactly 300kph. It's probably down to tyres.Plus to be honest, anything above that, speed-wise is just bragging rights. How often has anyone actually driven over 186mph?!
The lights will find their way onto the normal car soon enough, then the normal XKR will be perfect too.

The engine is capable of much more!
Quickest Cat Ever: 2010 Jaguar XFR Hits 225 MPH During Top Speed Bonneville Run

The XKR was designed during Ford's tenure. To ensure it didn't step on Aston Martin's shoes, a limited top speed of 155 mph was part of the design remit. Though beautiful, it was never intended to go safely above this. To ensure safe high speed stability, they need to fit aero kit's on the black/speed, and XKR-S editions.
More likely it costs to much to go to 200mph, you will likely need special (expensive) tyres and need to do a fair amount of testing to make sure it can safely do that speed
Much easier and cheaper to limit the top speed to something lower, at the end of the day were are you going to do 180 let alone 200

Yesterday Spain announced it was cutting speed limits to reduce fuel consumption

If this rolls out across the world it will not matter how powerful your car is.
In the fuel crisis in 1973 a blanket speed limit of 50mph was applied to all roads in the UK

That XKR-S was released over two years ago.. This one is a new model with the 5.0L engine. Read the interview on here with Jaguar's Mike Cross- he talks about the old version.

I know. My point is that it is pretty daft having a second limited edition model with the same name. It's not like there is a shortage of possible names out there.TheRoadWarrior said:

I know, but I thought it should have been mentioned in this article...I think the comment in the article about it being priced similarly to the 911 Turbo is a bit of a stretch. Anyone who's been on the Porsche configurator recently will tell you that decently speccing a 911 C2S takes it comfortably over £90k and a 911T will be closer to £120K if you did similar. Granted, we don't know what the options are but they're certainly not going to be anywhere near as extensive or expensive as Porsche's.
