You missed the biggest issue with a tow bar rack. Far easier to steal the bikes.

Usually are deals to be had. I reckon VAG group will be dishing some good deals out to get their yearly numbers up.

A lot of the good deals are already being had,see the VW Golf R deals. As far as I know these VWs are spec 2017

Is there a parallel thread running for questions not specifically relating to deals but still related to leasing?

This may avoid those 'hey deals only mofo' posts.

Yes, I realise this post contains no deals.

Unhappy?

Pour yourself a double Talisker.

I have been sent all the paperwork through for a 5-Door Manual Golf-R from a link previous in this thread for ~£275/month 1+23 for 6,000 miles PA. £300 doc fee - so £6941.52 for 2 years. Comes with the winter pack "for free" although it seems to be standard now.

I see a lot of people going for the Seat deal over the Golf-R deal, but the Golf still seems like a better deal to me?
Not a bad deal fella.

Golf R is the better deal but victim of its own success in some respects as the Seat will be a far rarer spot on the road and has more kit as standard.

I saw an advert on FB yesterday for the Golf R, 2 year lease roughly £1,800 down and £207 Inc VAT

What does the Seat have that the Golf doesn't? It has the DCC but the Golf counters with ACC. The Golf also has heated seats and Nav as standard, which it never used to. I might be wrong, but it looks to me like the spec gap has been closed.

For me, the seats (pardon the pun) in the Seat are far better - more comfortable, half 'leather' and really fit the hot hatch look. Also, 19 inch wheels as standard.

In relation to Tom-M's comment, you're looking at paying £7k over the term for a manual Golf R with 6k pa. But you can get a Cupra Black for £1k less and with 10k pa instead, hence some people considering it a better deal.

True. I've applied for the Golf-R - Manual - 6k/year - £300 fee, and £280 1+23 - only added extra is the net-app connectivity at £125.

I'll let you know how it goes. I personally don't do more than 6k a year, but overages are set at 10p per miles on the contract, but I've been told to contact them between 1year and 18months if I want to re-negotiate the price per mile over the 12k.

I personally think the golf-r is a superior car than the Seat, but as you say, it's a matter of perspective.

I think the Cupra is a cracking car and I love the more edgy looks but it's too close to the Golf R on price (leasing wise) and the 4WD is a massive plus point for me. My Estate (DSG Standard) amortised at around £268 and the Leon's aren't that much cheaper. It would need to be very close to £200 amortised before I'd have taken the Leon over the golf.

Not me smile

Its not the best box but it isn't terrible either. Only low speed gear changes 1st to 2nd that are poor. Still better for driver engagement!

Before ordering an Golf R Estate I had a look round a number of cars, and even took a test drive and got a lease quote from my local Seat dealer on a Cupra 290 ST.

The thing that put me off the Seat was it just felt cheaper inside. Toys wise, there isn't much between them. But even with the Golf being more expensive it was the winner. Also, being the estate the Golf also came with DSG standard.

Then a week later I helped someone change a rear passenger window in a Seat. The build quality was awful, and the sound deadening was non existent. I must admit that also put me off a little.

I'd still have the Seat though. I like it. Just not quite as much as the Golf.

VAG group contains the following brands...
Bugatti >> Bentley >> Lamborghini >>PORSCHE >> AUDI >> VW >> SEAT >> SKODA

each has their own market sector...and price points.

So in terms of standard of finish, quality of materials, i would say flow like this....
PORSCHE >> AUDI >> VW >> SEAT >> SKODA

Top end market, i dont have any experience of, so can't comment.

Not sure I agree with that, IMHO Audi and VW are very close and hard to call between them. But Skoda is a massive step ahead of Seat and to be honest not far behind Audi /VW

Have spoken to my fleet people and they are fine with me being a named driver on the policy regardless of whether i work for the business or not. They cover me to drive any vehicle on the fleet policy.

Yes I have been thinking that the only way i can get this to work is if my dad leases the car in his name and insures it on the fleet. I would then be able to drive it. But im guessing the monthly payments will have to come from his account and i would have to set up a DD from my account to his.

What happens then with regards to BIK or company car tax is still beyond my knowledge.
It is complex, but I suspect your dad would have to be the one who declares it as his company car and pay the BIK. I guess you'd then have to reimburse him the BIK.

I don't get why you are bothering to go down this route over a private lease? I'm guessing you might be young and/or have horrifically pricy insurance, as otherwise I just can't see how it makes sense on any interesting cars.

The cost of lease inc VAT, claim back some VAT, then add BIK.... likely to be in excess of the personal lease price + insurance surely?
I just found this while looking for something else.

Cars provided to close relatives
You don’t have to pay anything if both:

you’re an employer who’s an individual, eg a sole trader
you’re providing the car to someone who works in your business, but only because they’re a close relative and not because they work for you (eg you give your child a car as a birthday present)
A close relative includes:

your spouse or civil partner
your son or daughter, and their spouse or civil partners
your parents
any other dependants or guests of your household

If I could get a Golf R in metallic paint on 10,000 p/a for £250 amortised like I have with the Cupra, I'd take it. As it stands, I couldn't get that deal.

Golf:
Superior interior (trim only. Button etc are all the same as the Cupra)
4WD
Image

Cupra:
Equipment
Much lighter due to 2WD
Seats (golf R's are like family car spec, not acceptable for a flagship hot hatch imo)
Looks (opinion based 100%)

When I first saw a cupra up close (albeit a 265) I was a bit...meh. When I saw a golf R up close I was 'I'd like to have one of these on lease. Now with the black edition cupra, I had the seem feeling as with the golf; but I know it's not as 'premium' a product. As long as you don't try and pretend SEAT is a super-duper-premium brand, you'll be alright. They more than make up for that in standard equipment.

As it's a lease. I have no fanboy loyalty to any brand. I pay my monthly and hand it back. Were a golf R deal to appear in 2 years time on the new model for a comparable price to the cupra, it'd be bye bye Cupra. Leasing is all about trying cars you'd never buy, for me anyway. I'd never constantly get the same model of car on a lease. You'd be aswell to just buy one.

Swings and roundabouts.

Disagree with this. Audi is way ahead of VW. VW is ahead of Seat. Seat is still ahead of Skoda.

Again, just opinion.

For me the biggest fly in the Cupra ointment is that it's FWD. If it was 4WD I probably wouldn't see any reason to go for the golf as I couldn't care less about image and I view Seat/VW as much of a muchness and I think the whole "build quality" argument is overrated. In my view you need to jump 2-3 levels to see a significant difference (i.e. Mondeo to 3-Series). I'm guessing the VAG group knew all this which is why the Cupra/VRS petrols don't have AWD.

A Cupra ST Black Edition with DGS and AWD for <£250 amortised would be my dream wagon.
