Exactly, this logic also helped me decide that it wasn't a bad idea.
+ another.Exactly the logic that landed me in 2001 85k mile xj8 for 2k at Easter.
Its amazing. Super comfy, quick enough, lots of toys and easy to service at home. What's gone wrong? A bonnet open sensor and the fag lighter fuse went when my phone tried to draw too much current.
To anyone even thinking about it: DO IT

Recently i have feel in love with jags.

Not necessarily! The 3.2 I'm driving was my brother's and he's only 24. Before this he was running a series 2 XJ6, and an XJS prior to that.But at my age 23 and only 2 years driving insurance would cripple me
But.. having just taken the 3.2 for a drive and I'm not sure I like it. I think I may have to stick to my old series XJ6's.

What an excellent SOTW thread! Informative, interesting and most of all civilized. I am well and truly smitten with the idea of an x300 now. Just need to justify how I will pay for it, where I will keep it, how I can afford to pay running costs and when I would use it. Give me time......

What sort of performance do you get from these lovely ladies? 3.2 in a heavy car (they hadn't gone aluminium at that point had they?) can't be brilliant.
Sorely tempted, but completely unjustifiable. I have a Jag itch, especially as I hit 40 this year.....
Aluminium but steel rivets hold it together(x350) ,ask anyone with any Landrover product what happens when this combo mix!Sorely tempted, but completely unjustifiable. I have a Jag itch, especially as I hit 40 this year.....

All the X300 love and no-one has mentioned:
- the dampened motion of the ashtrays in the rear doors;
- the sunglasses holder, the tool kit under the bonnet (on some of them);
- the leather strap to help pull down the
boot;
- the way the electric aerial glides up
and down so slowly, so smoothly;
- the way they are so low in terms of height compared to other cars;
- the view down the bonnet; and
- of course, the way they just glide along so effortlessly.
It's the details that make it. Timeless.

All these things, but especially the height, the interior which envelopes you and the view down the bonnet are what gives a Jaguar its unique appeal. An XJ feels different to other cars.- the dampened motion of the ashtrays in the rear doors;

I miss my SWB 96 X300 Sov more than any other car - always made you feel special to drive, everyone who went in it loved it and it was bulletproof. The much newer Diesel S-Type I replaced it with was a massive disappointment and I was pleased to see the back of it.
X300 has to be a Sovereign for me - all that stainless steel floats my boat. Why bother with "sports" suspension on a car like that? You can put your granny in a tracksuit, but it doesn't mean she can run.
Odd car choice for a 24 year old bloke maybe, but I bet I got more pleasure out of it than my colleagues sinking 5x more cash into a diesel golf.

I prefer the Sovereign spec. I have the Sovereign version of the XJ40 but with a grey interior, piped blue. Probably not to everyone's taste these days, but I like it!

Classic the other day gave my boss a lift in the XJ6, he has a 320d (living the dream) and as he stood across from me shocked how low it was. Him - "have you had this lowered"
Me - "no why"
Him - "it is very low" "that cant be right"
Me - "it is not a euro rattle box"
