I forgot, everyone on ph has more money than a horse can st.

clearly its wrong to merely suggest 17k for another Luke warm fiesta is a bit pricey.

for example 19 year old.
17 k for fiesta over 3 years call it 18 k with interest.

500 per month payments before insurance or road tax.

Have you seen the average age of the UK's new car buying public now? There are very few 19 year olds even thinking about cars, let alone hot hatches, and Ford know this.

Given how expensive insurance is for 19 year olds I would argue that they aren't Ford's target market any more.

Also, in regards to monthly payments, a lot of people will end up on PCP deals paying around £200 a month with an optional balloon payment at the end, which they'll probably elect not to pay and just trade in for the next model.

That's exactly why these cars are so popular. And in a round about way, I don't have anything against that if all the buyer wants is something modern, reliable and able to take hard use for 3 years without giving it much thought. In this instance the car is a tool that helps people earn a living, so what's £200 a month for a transportation device and a part time hoon mobile? The Fiesta ST is starting to grow on me, I must admit.

good points. after buying 3 bikes since my fiesta I guess that cheap thrills arent do easy to find on four wheels these days.

the best thing for me about these cars was practicality, performance and most of all price.

personally I wouldn't dream of spending that kinda money on a fiesta.

I still don't think this fiesta would be better than the 197 you could have got for 16 k a few year ago.

but maybe im saying that as the mark 6 st I have is a bargain and all the car you ever really need to be honest.

manufacturing processes become cheaper, things improve over time design becomes simplified. look at tv's! they are cheap as fk now.

I pointed out I was shocked by how much new cars are now. I really don't see why as they are above inflation in this example.

17000 k in 3007 would cost £15k not the 13k they were selling them new for.

and it's fking £17 k not £16 no wonder sales people put prices at 16,995!
Re TV's etc... Electronics, chips, components... They are produced in such huge numbers, the same chips appearing in multiple products... They are pennies. Old bulky TV were more expensive to make for sure.
Cars, commodities, metals etc... Prices have soared. We want lighter cars but we want our toys, kicking sound systems, SatNav, electric this that and the other and we want it to keep us safe when we or another motorist gets it wrong. All this requires developing, testing and then put in production.
All this and cars are too expensive? Ford sell plenty of cars, biggest market share in the UK but can't make a profit in Europe! You fella, have no idea!!!

I asked earlier on was the price so high of the new fiesta due to more gadgets and safety features. I was told it was down to inflation by several other posters.

I can understand a price hike for these features though personally I wouldn't care for them if it meant paying more for them. in a car with this little power all you need is abs. IMO

Hang on a minute, this fwd girly parts bin special is good value at 17k. Not long ago people on here were saying a highly acclaimed 25k bespoke rwd coupe should be 16k. I've just signed my death warrant haven't I. Has ford customer service improved since the old days or something, why the praise?
Lol, good spot fella, the BRZ should be 15k was the argument but this is right on the money!
Seriously the ST looks decent value and will no doubt be a great drive, not for me though. Not any Ford, there is just something that I can't get past with them. It's not a badge thing, Mercs don't rock my world either.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this will be a 5* car, its a fast ford, stylish, priced competitively, practical, safe, fairly economical, etc.

I just can't help thinking before its even been released, that Ford should of upped the power to 200hp as standard and that they're going to make a 500 run special of the model with said power...

fk me.

I take it all back. I read the review on the clio. £20,000 +

I'm massively out of touch clearly, I'm man enough to admit I'm clearly wrong. hatchbacks are fking pricey these days.

I assumed clios were still 17 to 18 k

it would seem the fiesta is in line with its competitors.

so I ask as clearly I'm our of touch, why are they so pricey.

I'll take on board inflation, but as I said the fiesta is above inflation rates going on the last model. so what technology actually comes as standard.

Unless they are Dacias, cars are not priced at cost+margin but priced based on what the manufacturer think they'll sell at. Based on the price of the MINI Cooper S, VW's triplets and forthcoming Clio, Ford are actually undercutting them.

I'd much rather have an old sub 900kg French thing for 5K and spend a couple of G's getting it minty.

Looking forward to having a go in an ST. When are the fully specs coming out?

Had a MK7 Zetec S and now have a Metal. If the ST is like the Metal but with better brakes and headlights I will buy one. Really love the Metal which is a total blast on the twisty's and crying out for more power.

Hopefully Ford have fixed the leaking body work which afflicted my Zetec S which spoiled the owning experience.

Cheap as chips to run so far with high 40's mpg easily possible if you drive carefully.

Coming from an Renaultsport lover, I'd have that over a new RS clio in a hearbeat.

We're moving to Oz in a couple of weeks and I've just read that they're getting the 5 door, which would make this a perfect commuter car for me.

The rest of the car is fine, it's just that gaping grille I have an issue with - it's just unnesessary. It'd look great in pre facelift guise.
Am I the only one who thinks it bears mroe than a passing resemblance to the Aston in the other story?

Yes, you are the only one. It looks nothing like an Aston.

Agreed the 5dr does look better, less 'boy racer' than the 3dr and more just a baby version of the Focus ST. Prefer the rear mounted roof aerial also

The front grill certainly is. The rest of the car less so....
