All this boils down to is this.

If these Supercar johnnies had got consent to marketing, and had contacted and said "hey dude we see you didn't win the competition, but if you'd like to take up an offer of a day for £199 then you're welcome" then there would have been no issue.

The problem is that they didn't - they contacted people saying they'd won something when they hadn't, and then asking for £199 for their "prize".

Just sh t behavour.

This guy seemed pretty happy with them... http://www.hotukdeals.com/misc/supercar-lifestyle-...

Not a MIRA event though, I haven't found a single good thing said about an SCL day at MIRA.

Most mass-marketed scams seem to offer something that sounds attractive, but in reality doesn't exist - a prize in a competition you don't remember entering, an incredible business opportunity, or a miracle cure or treatment. They're very plausible - but there's always a catch - the premium number you have to call to claim your prize, or the up-front payment to secure the best deal.

I am not going to get involved in any augments but some one as asked if any one has anything good to say about slc, i attended a groupon track experience last year at mira it was ok but over very quickly this was to be expected as it was relativity inexpensive. i then took a tuition course and i have to say it was nothing short of fantastic, the days were well organized ian ashley is just something else my first day was spent with 2 other guys in a m3 (e46think) with ian the following day i had a choice of m3 v8 or gt3 Porsche i chose the Porsche which was full track prepared and i absolutely loved it .After a few days ian suggested to one of the bosses that i might be let into one of the gt3 cars i couldnt belive it when they bought round the ascari i still wake up in the night thinking about it,i thought my head was going to come off when Ian was driving , well that my experience i have no association apart from being a customer and cant comment on there marketing but had a great time i am now racing and currently doing my ARDS licence.

Same here, I've bought EVO ever since it's first edition in 1998 and this has really annoyed me!!!

Also, having got caught up in the excitment and posted on FB, it is humiliating!

The company are clearly chancers. They certainly won't be getting my money, now or ever!

EVO had better do an apology in the next edition or I and I suggest all of the other subscribers should seriously consider our future subscriptions!

With best regards,

I'll take a lot more convincing that this is a genuine prize, it absolutely isn't and Evo would do well to say something more along the lines of "yep, we've cocked up, sorry about that". People shouldn't be judged on the mistakes they make, but they should be judged on how they put it right. In that regard, I don't this has been handled at all well.
Totally agree. Things inevitably go wrong at times, the real test is how they're handled when they do.

The initial problem was seemingly caused by SCL, and Evo could have very credibly distanced themselves from that. Instead they defended the 'prize/offer', that's what's most disappointing.

Sounds remarkably similar to the shower we experienced through a voucher offer for one of Drift Racing's days at Santa Pod. I complained so vehemently that we got a refund. One of those days which promised much but delivered absolutely nothing.

On sunday I went to MIRA to take part in a supercar driving day that my mate had booked on the cheap through Groupon.

We were entitled to two laps in two different cars, plus two passenger laps in an Ascari KZ1 gt3 car.

Choice of cars was pretty limited as follows:

430 spyder
997 GT3 (with sequential shift)
BMW M3 coupe
DB9
XKR

There was as expected a reasonably long list of people waiting to go in the 430 and the 911, so I went for the M3 first as it was empty.

Usually I would never contemplate spending my money on a day like this, i've driven plenty of fast cars and done plenty of track days and I don't want somebody sat next to me telling me when to turn, brake etc. as clearly I know it all already

However, the chap that sat with me in the M3 was absolutely brilliant. After a brief chit chat about what I drove and my previous experience we set off. The only advice he gave me was to keep saying 'flat out, flat out, flat out' until it was time to brake, at which point he'd shout 'brake hard!' generally 20 metres or so after the brake boards. I have to say, if he hadn't been there i'd have been pootling round as I didn't know the circuit. As it was, on both laps we were going pretty quick, especially around the bottom of the circuit which was flat in 4th, well over 100mph, through a sweeping right hander, before it tightened up quite considerably. Sadly the ESP was left on, but we had the car squirming about on the brakes and triggered the stability through a couple of the fast sweepers.

It was over very quick but I really genuinely enjoyed it, mostly because of the very enthusiastic chap in the passenger seat who was egging me on all the way round.

Those M3's also sound great when they're pulling over 8k in 3rd and 4th.

So, after those two laps I stood around for quite a while as I just had to have a go in the Ferrari. After what seemed like hours but was probably closer to 45 minutes, I was now third in the queue for the 430 when some herbert spun it onto the grass and triggered some kind of 'i'm not running any more today thank you very much' mode. So that was the end of that.

To compensate for not getting a go in the ferrari we were offered an extra lap on our second choice, so I put my name down for the GT3 and got in the queue.

As we started quite late it was now approaching 5pm when the circuit has to shut and I was still due my second lot of laps plus my passenger ride in the Ascari. I wasn't the only one though as a few other people who had paid rather more handsomely to be there were complaining that they weren't going to get their laps in. Having enjoyed it so much earlier I volunteered to forgo my passenger laps for more time in the M3 (as still nobody wanted to go in it), so we did another 4 laps in it. Again, we were really going for it and I was seriously impressed with the car.

Finally I got a go in the GT3. It was an early 997 with 50k on the clock and a sequential shift on a standard synchro box. It was an impressive car to drive and the box was great fun, but the guy in the passenger seat wouldn't let you rev past 6 as he kept telling you to pull another gear and brake brake brake! So overall it was a slightly disappointing run.

The 6 laps I did in the M3 made the day for me though, it was great fun and really helped to have a trusting co pilot that gave you the confidence to keep it pinned when you don't know where the tracks going.

£145 on the website for just 4 laps in the ferrari! bloody hell its steep. How much was the groupon price? Look like you were lucky with the laps in the porsche

CyDoNiA1 year, 6 months ago #5Show comment tools
Very good. The track is brand new like was only finished being laid 6 weeks ago or so. The back straight is limited by the chicane it has but ya hit 100 before that and it's quite a daunting chicane when ya closing in on it at even that speed. Out the otherside ya can just about hit 100MPH again before the next turn.

Track surface is top notch anyway.

Was £99 for 3 laps in 2 cars so 6 total and then 2 as passenger in the Atom. I paid another £40 to get video and photos which sounds steep but the video is great to remember it by.

but it was originally 99 for just 3 laps no?...you got the porsche extra?

or it was 3 laps in ferrari and 3 laps in the porsche...but he let you have another 4 in the porsche as well after?

CyDoNiA1 year, 6 months ago #7Show comment tools
No that was the Groupon offer. 2 cars, 3 laps in each then 2 as passenger in the Atom. Now you see why I snapped it up. wink

On the 3rd lap in the Porsche he told me to go around again so I had 4 in Porsche then 3 in Ferrari and then 2 in the Atom as passenger and boy thats like a Go Kart on steroids.

The only downside was that originally I was gonna drive the Nissan GT-R then that wasn't gonna be available then was replaced with the Lambo Gallardo but then that had to have clutch replaced. On the plus side the Porsche was amazing to drive so if the others had been there I would never have tried the Porsche.

I see! sounds good. Not really on the same level but Im going outdoor karting this weekend on karts up to 70mph woop lol. Only been once on indoors karts (up to 40mph) but that was awesome.

CyDoNiA1 year, 6 months ago #9Show comment tools
70MPH a few inches off the ground will feel seriously fast. Have fun at that. I still need to sort some Go-Karting out sometime as I have never been. Atleast never in higher powered things than a kiddies Go-Kart. tongue out

Just done the same track day myself.

Paid £99 for this but took an added package of a 1 to 1 tuition day with an ex f1 test driver and a days road driving out of Crewe Hall in Cheshire for an extra £400.

This is the 3rd track day I've been on and this is by far the best.

Drove the Jaguar xk8r, Ferrari 430, TVR & Porsche GT3. The instructors were very good and there was little restriction on how hard you drove.

We had a half hour chat about the benfits of membership but no hard sell. I recommend it to anyone

Hello, i bought this Groupon for my dad for his birthday but am having a little trouble with booking with them. I was led to believe that we could take 3 guests but on the email now it says only one so was wondering how many people you took with you? Glad you enjoyed it though, its given me abit more confidence with the company. did you also pay the insurance waiver and if so how much extra was it? thanks for your time!

I'm sure the cars are lovely, but I think the issue is emailing people pretending they've won something when they haven't, in an effort to entice them to spend money on a "prize" which isn't a "prize" at all.

Deception, basically.

I assume Ian, having joined here yesterday you work for SCL?

Out of interest, how many people did you send the "you've won a runners up prize" to?

also,

Which insurers do you use for it to cost £199 PP for 3 sharing a car with an instructor?

Congratlations at completely missing the point.

At no point have I said that people havent used your services and enjoyed them.

The issue which you have chosen to ignore is:

Your (I assume you work for SCL) company DELIBERATELY tried to mislead people into thinking they had won something, when in fact you had sent the email to every person who entered.

The above is possibly in breach of UK competition rules, as well as data protection rules.

Your email failed to mention that the day would be shared with 2 other people.

Your email showed an E90 when in fact the day is in an E46.

It is not a "whole day", but "4-5 Hours".

When I called I was lied to again (after being congratulated before you knew my name) and told that only 20 people were runners up.

Finally a "prize" is not a prize if you are made to spend two hundred quid to take compulsory insurance and annual membership of your discount club.

If you had, as others have suggested, sent out an email saying "sorry you havent won, but we'd like to offer you a great opportunity for just £199", you may have gained a far more positive reaction.

So, how about answering these points and saying sorry to the people you spammed, rather than posting up irrelevant reviews of your service?
