ha ha .. no i am not neil briggs .. though I have met him afew times

this has proven to be a really interesting thread however, its amazing how sensative people are about Bond
(even though we put up with Dalton)

its extremely interesting to understand if the comments on here come from any real experience of the cars mentioned or its just an asthetic or some other opinion...

I am yet to drive the mono (come on Neil give me a go:-) ) so for me its purely an asthetic thing, though i do have some pretty varied car experience, and also the geek in me loves cutting edge products

I suppose to me I was only really saying it would be good to see him doing something in a car other than an Aston
obviously bond now will always have an aston somewhere, its part of the franchise furniture
I thought it would be fairly clear that was a given,

what i was trying to say was that it would be fun to see him racing around in something a bit more edgy and challenging than the car my accountant drives his kids to school in... he really does and plays the theme music

I was under the missconception (joke) that this site was full of petrolheads who would be supportive of product placement of an edgy british product into the US and world market.

please discuss lol

And do you really have that badge on the back of your Porsche? Seriously?
snowen250 .. have a watch of this, magnus is a top bloke with some great ideas, and hes a brit !!

and here is some more outlaw porsche history ...

http://www.emorymotorsports.com/outlaws

if you're a porsche purist then you may have a small heart attack and i have every respect for people who have that everything must be as it left the factory mentality, but for me I like what outlaw'ers do to porsches ...

I bought my 996 smoker for peanuts to run to the shops and take the bin bags to the tip, total bargain and great opportunity to have some fun playing with it .... a few mods later and it runs and sounds right ...

I defy anybody that owns an Aston not to slip into a tux put the bond theme on and drive it - I know I would hehe

it’s not about a lack of support for a British product, far from it (for me at least) but one of practicalities. As I said on a previous post:

  • No room for a bond girl
  • No boot to put an unconscious baddie in
  • No room for gadgets and gizmos, weapons etc.
  • No bullet proof glass not sure whether the car in On He Majesties Secret Service was a Q spec vehicle wink
  • His hair and suit would not be perfect getting out of it
  • It’s not low key enough without being a bit bold to go relatively unnoticed at a posh party
  • It’s a track toy, if Bond owned one he’d have it for weekend fun not for work
  • The Aston is more of an aspirational vehicle for many, whereas the same person would likely not aspire to a Mono, it’s a very niche machine.
The idea is noble but it just isn’t a Bond car, I hate to say it but to sum up my comments it simply isn’t practical enough, he’s a secret Agent not a superhero (and even then there are occasions when you need two seats).

There's an idea... Sod the Mono, get Bond in an M600. Plenty of room for bulletproof glass, gadgetry, and a woman.

and yes you are right...

not sure anyone i know who has a mono has it as his only car to take the wife out in ...

so in my world the db5 has been put back together after its little accident in Skyfall

but Q send out a crate to somewhere exotic, bond rolls his eyes when he sees it, as he would obviously prefer his db5, but then when it fits him like a glove and he blows a hole through a wall (thats why he has the compact rail gun) to escape .. he understands why Q gave it him....

and just to stem the comments bond has a much greater percentage of car chases in both the films and books where he is alone ...

he also swims in a dry suit with a tux under it... not a hair out of place nor a crease .....it is a movie after all

thinking about it .. the lack of roof and screen would probably lead to a driving off a cliff scene, Mono falling away to its untimely death whilst Bond jumps out and flys off on his jet powered wing suit (stunt performed by the wingman guy)

I think a sad thing has happened somewhere ... We all know bond has an old Bentley or Aston hidden away (sky fall) ... But Q or circumstance always delivered a disposable vehicle ...... Which he invariably trashed .... It having served him admirably ...

Key bond trait .... He breaks all his toys
Now I see where you are coming from. The BAC will most likely already be broken when Bond opens the crate, saving valuable time and effort which he can use for spying.

BTW, it's definitely possible to think without having to continuously tap the '.' key during the process.

Can't remember which one but in one of the films he swims in a wetsuit and then takes it of to reveal his completely dry and crease free DJ underneath biggrin

Like the idea but Bond is understated cool? Isn't he?

The DBS in Casino Royale just ticked all the boxes. Could you imagine pulling up in Montenegro in a Mono?

Subtle it isn't smile

If it was used as a mission specific tool, then great but really, he's a secret agent.

The funny thing is his most appropriate cars are the ones that are loved least. The Mondeo and the E39 M5.

To be honest I'm staggered that so few have heard of the Mono. I first saw it at Top Gear live in 2011, and Clarkson has namedropped it a couple of times on the TV show. He really rates it apparently. It does look a rather nice piece of kit in the metal.

However, as a Bond car? Utterly ridiculous. I do admire your persistence OP. Don't admire the ellipses though.

biglaugh you quite literally quoted him saying exactly that!

Goldfinger, btw, and dry suit would make more sense.

WHY DOESN'T BOND DRIVE A MONO ?????

Simple.
Because he has style.... and he's not a nob.
Do you not like the mono?

Have you driven one or a similar car atom/x-bow ?

I think that they feel so much more hardcore than say Ferrari. Porsche Lambo Aston etc do ....

... I can really see Q sending him one in a wooden crate ....
I like the mono as a vehicle but it is completely 100% wrong for Bond.
Read the books, have a proper look at how fleming described Bond and then look at the mono. It is wrong on every level.

Aston is spot on for Bond, or possibly (at a push) a Bentley Continental

Nope, not TND. Or any other Bond film. 750i in TND, driven from a smartphone round Brent Cross shopping centre car park which was supposed to be in Hamburg (or somewhere in Germany)

My only direct experience of them was a PHers brand new one that he turned up to the Batley Brag (a car show organised by another PHer). It left on a transporter and afaik he never got it back again.
