McLaren F1 for sale....one not-so-careful previous owner
Discussion
Supercars or hypercars are all about emotion and how they make you feel. The Veyron does nothing for me at all, just leaves me cold, give me an F1 or Zonda anyway .
Its interesting to note (or maybe not...) that no one on PH has a Veyron (that I am aware of) but there are at least 3 F1 owners and the Veyron just seems a 'I have lots of money so therefore I have a veyron' sort of car, rather than a real enthusiasts car.

It's a strange car the Veyron. It is a phenominal bit of kit and there is just nothing wrong with the car at all. Yet it holds no more interest for me than a normal car. I don't know anyone who values them. It is a very weird thing to say but they seem to have become an immensely dull product that no one seems to aspire to outside of the ME or Asia.

Mclaren are well capable of checking composite structures for structural integrity!
'Dear Mr RA,Edited by Sway on Monday 26th January 09:41
This panel we told you about that's damaged, we can chop out the damaged section and it can be patched up/spliced so it's good to go, but we think you should replace it because it will be messy.
RA: No let's keep it as original as possible, patch it up'
Repeat X times?
How many conversations like that did they have with him?
Just because Mr RA is 'a famous good bloke and petrolhead' does not mean I'd rather have his car than one owned by a less famous owner, who still services it on the dot, with no expense spared but does less mileage and stars in less films.
This car would be way down in my list of F1s to own. However, with almost no choice in the market beggars can't be choosers, but I certainly wouldn't say I'd rather have this than any other F1 as many are saying.

You've obviously not stood next to one if you're saying it's small and relatively simple!
Bloody thing is massive, and hugely complex (even in looks)...
I have stood next to many. The length is not dissimilar 997 (shorter than a 991). The most complex surfacing is over the engine, which is not visible from the usual side and front 3/4 angles. Compare it to the fussy detailing and huge radii and swoops on the current 3 talked about supercars and the Veyron's considerably shorter length makes it appear much smaller to my eye. (Granted, it is slightly wider and taller.)Bloody thing is massive, and hugely complex (even in looks)...
LaFerrari: Length 4702mm; Width 1992mm; Height 1116mm.
P1: Length 4590mm; Width 1946mm; Height 1170mm.
918 Spyder: Length 4643mm; Width 1940mm; Height 1167mm.
Veyron: Length 4462mm; Width 1998mm; Height 1204mm.
997 Carrera: Length 4435mm; Width 1808mm; Height 1310mm.
991 Turbo: Length 4506mm; Width 1880mm; Height 1296mm.
The LaFerrari must look like a whale to you!
The other thing that matters is weight, as in:
LaFerrari: 1255kg
P1: 1450
918 Spyder: 1635
Veyron: 1888
997 Carrera: 1395
991 Turbo: 1605
So, Veyron is widest, and heaviest by far.
Key thing about the Veyron is the quality of workmanship, which is the best in any production car. You can like it or loathe it, but beyond question it is very well made.

Blimey, didn't realise the tub was so extensive...
Always assumed it finished with the bulkhead at the rear of the passenger compartment, with engine cradle/rear suspension coming off of that.
Am I right in thinking the entire rear wings (down to the bumper section) and the engine bay deck are part of the structural tub?

The drawing is not entirely accurate at the front, but apart from the front bit, everything in the drawing bar the dashboard is one piece. That includes the floor. There is no rear cradle or subframe; the engine is affixed directly to rear bulkhead.Always assumed it finished with the bulkhead at the rear of the passenger compartment, with engine cradle/rear suspension coming off of that.

In practice, length and height are pretty much irrelevant. As your numbers indicate, the Veyron is the widest of the lot, and, unlike length and height, width does matter.
The other thing that matters is weight, as in:
LaFerrari: 1255kg
P1: 1450
918 Spyder: 1635
Veyron: 1888
997 Carrera: 1395

I wasn't going to mention the weight as that was a foregone conclusion. The other thing that matters is weight, as in:

Why is length irrelevant in a question of volume? It seems a rather 2 dimensional discussion without it.

F1: Length 4288mm; Width 1820mm; Height 1140mm.
F1 GTR Longtail: Length 4933mm; Width 1920mm; Height 1200mm.
I thought I'd add in the F1 and GTR Longtail to keep things on topic.

As much as I like F1's I'd have an Enzo and F40 & whatever else for the 8-10Mil & none of them Burgundy
Blimey - I just checked values and last time I looked F40s were around £150k and Enzos £400k! Mind you, even at their present value, you'd still have £6M change for: a brand new 458 and F12 for daily drivers, a couple of holiday homes around the world and a lovely big house in the countryside. Money's a funny thing!RobM77 said:
