Made some enquires on one of the Aston V12's within (sorta) range, no room for movement in price so it's a bit over budget. Need to drive one but think out of everything mentioned this would be my number one choice. R8 V10 is a safer choice, and I would agree, somewhat less special choice.
Good choice, very reliable too so little to worry you on costs. Servicing is pretty good especially if you use an indie.
My services are between 700-1100 for the V8V and DBS

So that's why you only drive a fiesta then wink

ps Yes they are. Takes about 30 mins you adjust to LHD
HAHA I drive a fiesta because I am a student, and therefore by definition am Poor/Broke.
My issue with LHD is more overtaking if you're on your own its a lot more difficult, and if you're pressing on you can't drive the same as you can in an RHD car on our roads.

Each to their own, american cars have never massively done anything for me. (Bar the Ford GT and older Mustang)

I love TVRs, I have had three and driven others but you really need to broaden your horizons a little.
Clearly a personal opinion, Id always put a TVR down as a low rent aston, thats how I see them - a stepping stone to aston ownership.

I like TVRs but they would never make me feel special in the way a Maserati or Aston Martin would, not in a million years - Brands are different levels in my opinion. drivingbanghead

Was this the grey one I mentioned from Stratsone? If so Badger them, they're buggers for being tight.

Good luck finding one, and test drive it, you may hate it and prefer the r8 who knows - good luck driving

TVR never attempted to rival the big names like Aston etc. They sold for 30% of the price. They were able to rival them round a track and 0-60 and looks, but were never supposed to be rivals on build quality or engineering pedigree. So let's cut them some slack in comparison to the Famous Names.

Matt I have noticed that you seemed to have popped up on quite a few threads in recent weeks offering advice on a wide range of cars. How did you get so much experience - are you a relation of Twincam?

This is where my money would be going. Always enjoy seeing them at Bauer Millet each weekend. Especially in yellow!

I bet it's easier for me to overtake in my 560bbp left hooker than it is for you in your 90bhp fiesta wink
Oh PI55 Off! haha. I mean relatively, Id sooner have a rhd 458 with 562bhp over your 560bhp left hooker wink

You understand my point though? Car/situation snobbery aside? biggrin It will be easier in the UK to thread a rhd car down a 'drivers road' than it is a lhd vehicle.

Aston dealers are notorious for not budging on price! I had cash when buying mine and i struggled to get a indoor cover for it!
But the red V12 at 555 is good. Dont worry about the colour, i have a red Aston and everyone says "its so much better the greys and silvers we always see"!

And just to sway you that little more, ill turn you over to JC!

the box in yours is a derivative of the box used in a Ferrari F430 with Im guessing the updated/tweaked software so is bound to be miles better at least 10 years ahead of a 355 F1 box smile MC shift in the MC Stradale is even better too biggrin
The F430 transaxle shares not one single component with either the 355 or the Maserati...

I bought an R8 a few weeks back, use it daily to hack across town and park it in a multi-story. MPG 9-20 depending on my mood, the boot is too hot for ice-cream as the radiators are up there and the magnetic ride shocks will go other than that it's exactly as it says on the tin.

I already started a few threads when buying it so feel free to read over those for mine and various other opinions on rivals. Also, one of the attractions of mine was it was fully optioned all carbon bits, B&O etc so if there's an option you want an opinion on let me know.

I did then bought a Sagaris, feels far more special than a V8V or V12 Vantage.

The 430 is a development of the f1 gearbox that I believe started in the 355?

The comment about the maser box was a comment from an owner, that the gearbox was related to that of the 430. If you can further clarify my error that'd be great smile

The only thing in common is that it was developed by Magneti-marelli. Your statement is like saying the Ferrari 458 is a development of the model T ford. Every single component is entirely different.

I like the colour actually but the extra couple grand would get me the silver one with 12k less miles, newer car and the must have option of the premium audio so I'd probably pay it if it came down to it. Just not much choice at this price point at the moment.

yep, it was that one. It's up at £75,215 at he said it's just been reduced from £75991 so there's not room for anymore. :-) Said I needed to be nearer 70 and he then mentioned finance so hey ho..

The aston seems to be a lot more practical than the R8, in that it's got a somewhat half decent boot and more space behind the seats.

Edited by hven on Monday 4th May 16:12
I would sit in both. One has the feel of sitting inside a Swiss watch and the other a minicab. They really are two ends of the spectrum. And how you feel about a car when you are sitting inside it is really important as these are the parts you see all day, every day and the boys that can really begin to annoy you very quickly if they are not what you really like.

And then, drive them. The R8 is pretty different to drive than the Aston. Arguably it is a better steer but then it's supposed to be a supercar whereas the Aston is a superGT so you'd expect these differences. It's just a matter of what it is you are looking for.

There's no true downside to testing all these cars. At this price level you need to genuinely know what it is that you want.

As people have said earlier, the Porsche option seems really sensible but from my experience with Porsche you know really quickly firstly whether you like the way they drive and secondly whether you actually want to be part of the brand because with Porsche, whether you want to or not you do become part of their brand and your identity is moot.

Personally, I'd be looking at a Gallardo at this price point.

I've sat in the R8, a 2010 V10 with carbon interior. It was better than I expected but yea it's on a par with my current car and nothing special. I sat in a more recent 2014 V10 and that was a lot nicer though it probably had exclusive interior.

Never had the chance to see in the V12V but the interior is much the same as the normal vantage correct apart from the special seats? I've never sat inside a vantage either but agree with you interiors are important.
