Its the same with Saab, 9-3 is a vectra C with a wig, infact so is the Cadillac BLS and BLS wagon. New 9-5 uses the same platform as the Insignia. 9-4 will use Antaras platform and 9-1 or 9-2, whatever they decide to call it would have used the astra platform, dont know what Spyker intend to do with that. Im guessing the Aero X will use the C8 Lavollette platform now. It was going to use the Corvette platform IIRC.
Not quite right. 9-3 does share some components with the Vectra, but it's definitely not just a rebadge. The Cadillac BLS was the 9-3, modified and built by Saab, at GM's request.
9-5 is modified Insignia platform - again quite a few improvements.
9-4 is a quick rebadge to fill a gap in the market.

I've never heard the tale that the Aero X was going to be Corvette based - it was always due to be 4wd (with the Haldex/Saab system) and a biopower 2.8v6.

I may be wrong about the Vette, but Im right about everything else. If the 9-4 was a quick rebadge to fill a gap in the market, why the hell is it now 3 years behind antara. Not doubting you, just questioning GME's logic.

Due to some laws about the format of lights not being allowed to be composite in the US (I think), just about every single car sold in America in the 80s had these quad lamps fitted, including many imports.
Interesting, always wondered why US Volvo's were like that.

The XJS had a similar arrangement for the US I think too.

Pretty sure the first gen impreza had honda electric window switches, and from what i saw on friday, nissan micra door handles.

A lot of rovers and honda's share components. Same with Daewoo's and GM cars, even before the take over.

The nissan micra's 1.5DCI engine is actually the Renault 1.5DCI engine.

Thats because prior to takeover Daewoo produced obsolite GM patterns,

Because they are partner companies and have been for a few years now.

Hazard Switch is from a Vauxhall. Maybe a Nova or Astra??IIRC. As is the Electric Mirror adjuster (Cavalier.)

Electric Window switches and heater vents are from a mk4 Escort

On the SLR McLaren the rear diff is from the S Class and parts of the column are from the A class. Not strictly a shared component as it's all Merc really.

The SS1 also uses the header tank from the Mk3 Escort which someone on the RS Owners Club recently discovered to their great joy.

It was often said that all Rovers had shiny column stalks from a 1979 Honda Accord.

But this was on the 4car forum (remember that?! laugh)...pinch...salt.

Remarks like this once resulted in 4car getting hijacked by a MG Rover owners forum.

After watching Top Gear tonight it seems the Robin Reliant has Mk2 Ford Fiesta headlights, the rear lights seem familiar too.

sorry if this has already been mentioned

That's where you went wrong - GME & logic in the same sentence :-)

Great Thread. As previously mentioned the various configurations of Lotus Esprits over their life span have had a multitude of parts foraged from other manufacturers bins...

Rover Lights, morris door handles, vauxhall switchgear, mg fuel pumps, triumph headlamp lift motors to name but a few. Renault and Citroen/maserati gearboxes, Toyota power steering the list goes on!....

Makes getting parts easier!
