To me the Ford Mondeo is the fish and chips of the motor industry. It does the job, fills you up and, if you find a good one, a damn site better than most restaurants (restaurants in this case being premium offerings)
My sister has a previous generation mondeo, a diesel one complete with the sceptre of potential diesel bork. She has the mechanical knowledge and sympathy of a potato (she still can't check oil and water) yet in 4 years has had one minor problem and apart from servicing it's cost her nothing to run, has a huge boot and is as comfy or well equipped as cars that would have cost twice as much to run.

Chaps, I've been tasked at work with replacing our engineering vehicle.
It's a Volvo V70 D5 AWD. Work have said can be new / leased or bought outright nearly new.
Which would be cheaper / better deal.
Replacement must be diesel, must be estate, bluetooth and xenons are highly desirable.
I've spec'd a new 320d m-sport @ £33k. A4 is £32k, C class is £32k, Vovle is 28k + options, Octavia VRS is £25k.
You can get an old shape (E91?) 320d kitted out with 5k miles for £25k
The V70 is a fair bit bigger than a 320 or A4. Might be a problem if you are filling it to the roof with "engineering stuff".It's a Volvo V70 D5 AWD. Work have said can be new / leased or bought outright nearly new.

Also, is the AWD bit important? A 320 MSport with low ground clearance and RWD might not be ideal replacement.
What about an Octavia Scout?
Otherwise there is a large choice of year old ones on Autotrader.
Alternatively there's always a Mondeo on offer as a lease deal somewhere, might be worth checking out with this bunch as to what they would charge for the estate version.

That is the one, I had a feeling it would just slip in to the expensive tax bracket and had been reading about the leakage issues with the sunroof drain pipes so will check that thoroughly. I think they've had it for a while and it disappeared from autotrader a while ago only to appear again earlier this week.
Spoke to them earlier this week and they mentioned something about a height adjustment warning coming up and it being in BMW to sort it.
When I spoke to them again yesterday they said Sytners had given it a full ins 2 and replaced a control module which sounds to me like it could be boot leakage related but I could be barking up the wrong tree.
Off to Spain for the weekend but will try and get to have a poke around it on Monday afternoon when I get back.
I'me waiting to pick one of these up, mines an auto and without the sunroof. Same age and miles from a BMW dealer and gave similar money with a years warranty. I'd rather build a time machine, pop on a dress and dash back to the Top of the Pops studio circa 1972. What are you thinking?
