Love the Astroid wheels. Wish I had them on mine.Talking of which, my thread purchase from earlier this year has gone into hibernation for winter.
My accountant kindly offer up an underground parking space in the Greenwich Millennium Village, just down the road.
Picked up a cheap Hawkeye WRX Wagon as a winter hack (forgotten how great these are as a drivers car).
How petit does the XJ look against that fat XF ?

Why do I keep coming back here? Everytime I look in I find something that'd be ideal for a daily driver when I don't need another car.Would I expect to see over 30mpg on a 10 mile A road/15 mile motorway commute? And do these earlier cars contain the seemingly notorious self destructing autobox?

Not too sure on this guy's reasoning skills, but it's a lovely bit of motor.

Many thanks for the really helpful 190e window motor replies. To confirm, it is the driver's side, and when it's stuck down there is no noise - just nothing at all.
Really appreciate all the advice, and I'll let you know how I get on.
190e update. Just collected it, after the fit of a new thermostat (£17.60 ) and investigation of the driver's window. They were unable to replace the motor at sensible cost. MB wanted £280 from Germany (it's the Bosch version on my car). Really appreciate all the advice, and I'll let you know how I get on.
They have lubricated the runners and it works fine as long as you don't drop it all the way to the bottom. If you do, it sticks and you have to press the switch and bang the door panel! They have diagnosed a dead spot on the motor at the bottom position, but that aside all is well. I think I can probably live with it, but I will look at the options.
Thanks again for all the advice, which was much apprceiated.
You could buy this car twice, and 100 lottery tickets and still be under thread budget, but it looks good to me!

Mini leftfield (and LHD) "barge" (okay I just like it!):
BMW E30 Alpina C2 2.7 LHD For Sale (1988) £5,695. I would have guessed it was much more expensive going on the E30 and other Alpina prices from this era.

A little late I know but one of the guys over on the alpina register went to view it and its not a C7, just a boggo E30 with cosmetic alpina bits BMW E30 Alpina C2 2.7 LHD For Sale (1988) £5,695. I would have guessed it was much more expensive going on the E30 and other Alpina prices from this era.

Then I realised it was a 'private' sale and I knew it would be dodgy.
A shame because a real one would be ace.

400 quid, 10 months MOT, 2 new tyres, FSH and a recent service ...? That's a steal.
If anyone needs a station snotter, look no further. In fact, it almost looks too good for that.

I had a similar C class as a loan car from Mercedes when I was in 6th year at school. Quite how I managed to get Mercedes breakdown to delivery me a brand new car on a flatbed at age 17 I don't know but it was an epic blag. Drove it to school for a few day until they repaired the A class and thought I was king in the castle.

very! I can't find a photo but would love to see the old and new XJ next to each other. The new one is like a supertanker, even compared to the big XF.
Stick a request in http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... (I used to think the old XJ was quite big )Lugy said:
