So here's an interesting one for you lot. A person collects all the parts to build a car that was discontinued and obsolete 41 years ago. I mean every piece, including a new body shell. Then he builds it up into a new car. How should it get registered? We'll see if you have the right answer.
Some 7 or 8 years back, There was a bloke posting on the mk2 cavalier owners forum, whose project involved a new (old stock) 1.6 Shell purchased off ebay, from some random place, an old 2.0 CDi donor (I think that's how I remember it), an astra GTE 16V engine, and various secondhand and new bits and bobs including a secondhand Calibre Bodykit and was building a CALIBRE 16V. (which GM never actually made)

When I helpfully pointed out the relevant bit of the DVLA website said "IDENTICAL" chassis, and a 1.6 shell was NOT identical to a 2.0 Shell, so he should get a better understanding of how he was going to register it, before he went too far, and wasted his money building something that would be a ball ache to register honestly, I seriously touched a nerve. IIRC he got very defensive, and abusive.

Given that the shell have never been used, he could have started with a 1.6 donor, and initially built it standard, before later, adding the performance bits. But in the end IIRC he never finished it so there never was an issue.

Selling the opportunity to buy the V5 for a rare 205 GTI 1FM and create a fake one out of a normal 205.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peugeot-205-Gti-1-Fm-/14...

Before anyone queries the asking price, it's been mentioned on another forum from someone who called him that it's a fake listing advertising that the car is being broken and making it sound like the shell is available, but it isn't as it was scrapped some time ago. He's basically making it sound like he's flogging any parts he has left, when in reality he's just getting people to call him to buy V5 & VIN plate as pictured banghead

Wasn't this a couple of stickers and painted alloys to mark the 25th anniversary of Radio One FM?

Hardly worth trying to ring as the stickers will be all but impossible to replicate.

Sadly there are a number about. Regrettably once again caveat emptor and being aware of the inherent risks with dodgy registrations is the best protection. Provenance of cars that are in bits or modified heavily needs to be established with serious care.

As a Lada convertible on the V5 quite feasible, dependant on build date.

not today....the car was registered on the donor b4 SVA came into force.

the amnesty period for correcting the v5c is long gone.

watching the car from the today´s law its incorrectly registered...fact!!!

there might be a small chance that the dvla will update the v5c without IVA but you cannot claim for that.

and its most likely that the seller knows all these issues, otherwise HE would have already updated the v5c, because this would result in a much higer sales price.

update: the car looks like a RAW, RAW took over the striker after SVA was established.....so this car was not registered under the old laws, it was wilfully wrong registered ..however the "convertible" thing came into the v5c

there is a chance that i´m wrong and the car started as a sylva (b4 SVA) and was later updated with RAW parts.

Lada did a Niva, Riva and Samara convertible. Very, very rare over here but there are a few around.

Double whammy on the reporting too - Illegal items and avoiding fees by putting contact details in the listing.

Possibly but I think your original doubts were realistic. It has been on several times and never sold. Suggests to me that the provenance is open to doubt and it does seem that more enthusiasts are becoming aware of the risks. Best avoided IMO.

Indeed! Well spotted.

The same vendor seems to have a number of these dodgy details. No parts at all just paper logbooks. I would expect rigorous enquiries were any attempts made to actually use these marks.

See http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/classique303?_trksid=p20...

All best avoided IMO.

Sold, but I ask you!

"NOT JUST A LOGBOOK "
". . . it is restorable as I have restored them from this state before"
"This Mini is very, very rotten indeed"

(One out of three is certainly true, except that some 98% of the car is missing!)

So, just including a picture of this piece of twisted decay enables the sale of a log book!
