What sort of tuning options (if any) exist for the 2.0 924?
Chris
You have to look back to the early days of the 924 to find any - several German firms offered aftermarket supercharger kits for them. Unfortunately you can't readily buy them any more as you'd be better off just buying an S, Turbo, or any given 944 or 968 variant.Chris
I still reckon the original 924's the best looker of the bunch though. On the right alloys in the right colour, an early one without a spoiler looks like a baby Maserati Ghibli.

Inspired by this thread, I've just bought one on ebay (although not the actual SOTW). £900. Collecting tomorrow.

I emailed that link to the wife and was waiting on consent..
Awesome. Jealous.
Just look at the lovely brown velour!

Seems my lovely wife does not share my weakness for velour, and are those green carpets.
Congrats to the lucky buyer. Very, very green with envy.

Personally I couldnt get excited about an old 924. Virtually all will smell, have faded and worn out carpets, terribly cracked dashboards and seats in tatters.
factors that will have zero negative influence on my enjoyment of a carbuy brand new audi instead, feel those lovely tactile plastics
Well, you may be correct. However in my (quite extensive) experience many new owners arent that happy.
Uncracked dashboards are like rocking horse ste now and even series two 944 seats are mostly worn, as are their carpets.
I think that the sweet spot for 924 ownership was the mid-laye nineties. They were cheap then too, but newer; and replacement trim for 924Ss (for the dash) and 944s was available for reasonable prices in good condition.

Sold my (rather tidy) 91 three door Golf Gti mk2 8v for about £2.5k a while back, it was in similar condition to this 924 (from how it appears in the ad anyway) & I'd much rather have this 924, very fresh, sharp lined handsome car... suits the colour, interior not a raggy mess either... Never pay'd much attention to these in the past, but I'm seriously impressed by the value for money. Not looking for an old car at the moment, but when I am I shall certainly be looking at these.

As a non-P car fan who was a teenager in the 80's, this was how I viewed P cars back then...
911/930 turbo = very formidable, especially good looking with slant nose and whale tail
911 = the respected enemy, but no thanks
928 = the enemy's better-looking sister and Risky Business co-star
944 turbo = the enemy's uglier sister, but tolerable
944 = feeble
924 = POS, plain, and feeble
914 = POS, ugly, and feeble
Today they all get a retro-boost, but I'd still rather pay to drive something else than get a 924 or 914 for free.

A wise man once said, there is no such thing as a cheap Porsche. As a former owner of an '83 944, I can attest to that. What I can say is that even though it was cheap and required ample amounts of TLC, I loved *almost* every minute of it.
Mine broke me.Cambelts / balance shaft belts / suspension / brakes / leaking fuel line / etc.
I must have spent the best part of £2k on it - but then had to sell it as I could no longer afford it.
A 924 is a much better proposition on a budget (not the "S" version).
IMHO though, it doesn't look as nice as the wide arched 944.

Thanks chaps. Unbelievably excited about collecting it tomorrow. Will post back with an update when (if?) it gets me home.
Look forward to hearing about it. That list of work done looks good. Fingers crossed for you.I brought a volvo 850 for £850 years ago, had 1 owner and 120k on the clock when I brought it, only thing that didn't work was the air-con. No biggie. Did 20k in it, gave it to my little bro and he did another 50k before it finally died. Proper banger.
I hope the 924 for £924 is equally auspicious
