The attention they get is incredible, I can honestly say I doubt a supercar owner would get much more.
I would guess you're horribly wrong with that assumption. To 90%+ of the general public I bet these cars look like nothing more than a £100 ancient car thats been badly modified by a teenager at Halfords...

Yours is the assumption, whereas mine is the fact.

What is it with people on here these days. It used to be a site for petrolheads not meatheads.

The supplying dealer was WH Baker in Merthyr Tydfil which is probably why the plate is familiar to the South Wales users. It was actually a Cardiff issued number in 1987. The first owner was from Leicester so it went straight there, only to return back to Cardiff 23 years later with me (after a spell abroad in a private collection)

A decent mid field Group A RS500 will cost you a minimum of £85k plus these days, the best are £150k plus. Again these are factual prices thats cars have recently sold for.

Was it yourself who was asking in the South Wales section a year ago for WH Baker window stickers, or at least a picture of one?

Yes that was me, managed to find one and get it replicated in the end along with plates and tax disc holder.

If I remember correctly it's just a chap in Sweden who has collected the cars in his garden over the years as an investment. Problem is, he wanted far to much money for them and they are steadily getting worse and worth even less than his already over inflated asking prices.

By the way, when my numbers come up, along with various other cars, I will have Fords aplenty in my many garages, no matter what they cost......

The prices do seem crazy but they are changing hands so must be worth it to the right people, I'd certainly pay the current prices if I had the funds. It's no different to the crazy prices that are charged for old VW's, BMW's etc.

You're dreaming if you think anyone really knows/cares what a Sierra Cosworth is. A small minority of petrol heads will. To the rest its just a bland old car with a stupid £50 halford spoiler added.

rolleyes

Pretty sure anyone over 30 would have some idea what it is, besides, i'd rather have a knowing nod from a fellow Petrolhead when driving a Cossie than a bunch of average people getting over excited just because I had a red car with a horse on the bonnet....

I often wonder, when reading posts on here, if the people who write like this would speak the same way to someone's face.

Why wouldn't I say that to someones face... I'm not saying its a bad car. I'm saying it looks like one to people who aren't interested in cars. That isn't being rude or being incorrect... its just stating a fact.

Never thought I would see a 3dr Cossie being referred to as bland.

Thats because you completely misunderstand what my point was. You know what a 'cossie' is. Most people don't. Its an average looking 20 year old Ford to everyone else. With a bit of Barry modifications thrown in.

It's era has passed but it was/is more than the sum of its parts. Created a huge media following in its day, and spawned a whole tuning industry, possibly started the horsepower race as well in Europe. With 200 brake from a saloon everything moved up a notch. A lot of working class blokes over 40 will know instantly what it is, because they would have wanted one back in the day.

I'm a prize fool for thinking this.

So the fog lamps have been removed? If so, its not as it left the factory, therefore NEVER going to get 65k, or 50k for that matter.

But its nice to know there are comedians in the car selling game that can still entertain us!!
Fixed that for you.
Very clever and witty

The fool is the person who pays 65k for an old Ford
65k is greedy but as for "fools" and pricey old Fords

correct, its in ekeby, about 50 miles out of stockholm, pity he didnt build some kind of shed (with planks a quid each here).
you can google map it. bizarrely classic car prices here are cheap whereas a second hand average car is 2x 3x UK prices.
Wondered if its worth buying something classic and converting it to RHD (or go back to the fifties when they were all RHD.

Funny, this brought back a memory of being a schoolchild around the year 2000 and seeing a white 3dr cosworth in pieces in someone's front garden. Obviously someone had started trying to restore it to its original condition and had run out of money. In the past few years the thought has come back to me several times wondering if the car still exists. Out of curiosity I looked up the address on Google Maps and amazingly:

It's there, and back in one piece. Can't believe it!

I bought my RS500 2 years ago, I was lucky to find a mint example with complete history file. It's one of my childhood favourites and I guess will be so for many people around my age. It may not be the best handling or fastest or best looking car but it is to me the most desirable ford of the 80's. Prices will keep rising and the premium for the best cars will keep increasing, as will the RS500 premium to the standard 3 door cosworth. He may not sell it tomorrow but i don't think it will be long before the car changes hands at that price. People seem to confuse enthusiasts and collectors / speculators. Most collectors are enthusiasts who look for the best example they can find of a car they love, they don't all get locked away and never used. As more people of that generation become wealthier and decide they want to have one, they will chase prices further up. I know I will not be selling mine.

Hi scrimper, have you joined up to the 500 owners forum?

Very few owners are planning to part with there cars in the near future, and supply has all but dried up as a result, hence people buying nice 3drs instead which has resulted in those rocketing as well.

All the ones I am aware of are owned by enthusiasts like yourself, speculators would not even know what they are.
