Gone a bit YouTube on this thread...
It really has, but then a lot of front page threads go that way.
Definitely. So what if the OP has an "unusual" taste? PH normally encourages the misguided and observes with good humour from a safe distance. Abusing the subject is very poor form and often stops the entertainment.

I want to see that luminous Eunos. driving

(I bet he's disappointed with the feedback though).

£1500!!!!!!!!!!! I know you have to use a lot of product, 4 - 5+ gallons to do a car but always thought this was supposed to be a cheap and temporary alternative to wrapping, not an alternative to real paint.

I had a car professionally resprayed, full colour change (door, boot shuts etc) in base and clear by a guy who has had many magazine featured cars for £2k

I get the feeling this is a "add campaign" and marketing for the chaps in Southampton to see what response they get wink

I love how the idea behind the OP's article completely goes over nearly everyone's heads, who then get mad about it and post in the comments.

It's quite obvious from reading it that it was a 'lets just do it and see what happens' experiment. It's a gash colour, I agree, but its still interesting to see another way to change the colour of your car.

Good on you for giving it a go!

Looks fine!

Sez he, who wore 'Hawaiian' shirts for years in his cafe!
Maya Angelou (IIRC!) quoted on Pistonheads - a first?! I like the purple. When I went looking for an AX many moons ago I really wanted a Spree special edition for that metallic purple. Under used car colour. What you have there is a very different Scoob - good on you!

Looks like dogst!

For £1500 (or even less if its ding free) you could get a decent oven baked respray done in the original hue making it look new and pristine again. Oh and you could still wash it and spill fuel on it and not have to worry.

I think covering you car with jam or peanut butter would be more sensible than this plasti-cote rubbish.

And worrying about resale values is why we've ended up with everyone driving a silver diesel hatchback in a spec chosen by the salesman.
^^This....

Although I'm not keen on the purple colour, it will be worthwhile for an experiment to see if it's any good.

I'm sure you can get a 5 litre can of this stuff for 100 quid and a DIY effort would be much more impressive, and you could really have freaked out the neighbours by standing in the street painting your car barney purple, possibly at 2am in a bath robe and fluffy slippers for added effect.
Somebody, please do this, record yourself and post the video..

I'm not trying to stop anyone doing what they like to their cars. I just much prefer it how it was before, seems ruined to me. Each to their own though...

Indeed he can. Its a free country.

That same freedom allows us to express our views on it!

Jesus christ, you paid how mush for a PlasticRap, £1500. You can buy a complete kit from America for $400, Gun and that also include 4 gallon of paint, any colour. As for the product, I really like it, could be a good protector for alloys wheels in the winter if there was a clear coat option, or maybe paint the wheels matt silver in the winter time for protection, then pill off in the summer.

FINALLY! 7 pages before someone with some sense! There are two fails in this whole thread:

1. All the retarded people who have no idea what they are talking about.
2. The OP paying the best part of $2400 for this when he could have done it himself for $400-600

And you can get it in gloss or metallic as well...

As for the durability:

What does this stuff do that a cheap DIY paint job doesn't do?
It's a lot easier to get a decent finish than real paint, and if you screw up you just peel it off and have another go.

Good for respraying trim.

(the photo flatters them, they actually looked worse than that in daylight, more like the side vent pic above)

I take you have never seen G-Technik's products? They do some amazing stuff including a permanent trim restorer, you simply wipe it on with a cotton pad, light buff and it looks better than new, I kid you not, only costs about £20-30 and will do all the plastic trim on an average size car.

I've come across reviews of that stuff saying that it isn't as "permanent" as it claims - e.g. this one. So I was a bit sceptical that the new miracle product was really any better than all of the other "back to black" style products. But I also wanted it to respray a scabby splitter, so I was buying plastidip anyway.

It does work, but you need to make sure you completley degrease the surface 1st for best results and will last at least 12-18 months.

I think the colour looks alright. Surprised by some of the extreme reactions on here to be honest.

Look forward to an update on how it's holding up after the winter.
