hehe "F1 technology" indeed. Technologically it's just a hybrid, not really much different from a Honda Insight/Toyota Prius but less sophisticated. The only "new" thing in this seems to be a bit of clever packaging and the idea of using the motor to brake the engine for up-shifts, and that's hardly a major technological advance.
Sorry I meant things like paddle gear change, a DRS style system and the push to pass button.

Still don't like the fact that it shares the same engine as the 12C. Special car should have its own unique engine, IMO.
This.

How is this going to be better than ringing a N/A Ferrari V12's neck out to 8500revs.

It's obviously going to be competeing with the likes of Pagani, Koenisegg, and other crazy stuff, and to me this doesn't seem in the same league. The inside looks like a slighty flasier 12c as well, and a 3.8 V8, with some giant turbo's? Gay. Gimmie a 2nd hand Zonda with an AMG V12 any day of the week.

Well this engine will rev to 8000rpm...

The P1 looks shocking and so other worldly.

I like the hybrid tech and how it is being used. Very cool. I do think, the next gen hyper cars will have very interesting implementations of hybrid tech and that I find very interesting and engaging. I always thought the 12C's engine was very muffled and boring sounding, but I do look forward to hearing how it sounds in a higher state of tune.

So one person slates it and he's wrong. rolleyes

IMO Just as wrong as all those that proclaim it will be the best car eva! rolleyes

People were fighting over the Veyron and the 12C in the same fashion

Until it's posted some proper times and weights and crucially reviews from testers. Lets not get ahead of ourselves! It has however got to be much much better than the 12c. Not just in terms of performance, but in teerms of getting everything onto the car at launch to work. Unacceptable on the 12C that the sat nav didn't work for customer cars.

So the Zonda has the 'unique' AMG V12 seen in the big CL's over the last few year, albeit in a different state of tune. The Mclaren F1 had the V12 out of a 7 series... Again hardly a unique lump, just tuned differently for it's application.

Who said Unique? you? Why? Cus you're an ass?

Have you heard a Zonda at full chat? Good luck getting that out of the Mclaren 3.8 V8.

From the interior pics, I think it probably revs out to 9000 rpm. The power/torque stats look odd for a FI engine though. You'd expect that kind of high power and low torque from an N/A engine...

errr

No and No!

Do homework first! Zonda lump was designed for Pagani specifically. BMW V12, well there's a great story out ther about that lumps origins. Suffice to say it's not a derivative from a 7 or 8 series!

The F1's lump is effectively a pair of M3 straight 6s spliced together (Sort of)

The Pagani engine has lots in common with other AMG V12s though it's unique.

The new Mac V8 is a ground up new mill that owes nothing to any other engine. It was a bit mute in the 12C to begin with but they've improved it to the point of it being if anything louder than the 458.

MacLarens constant upgrading and retro fitting to all cars is really unique in the motor industry. Its leaving some of us a little out of date with the actual state of play. Not given enough credence IMO.

No sign of Ferrari following suit anytime soon.

Would you rather have the P1 with a 900bhp hybrid turbo, or with a 900bhp naturally aspirated engine?

Rumours are the development cars, without hybrid, were lapping Dunsfold around 3 secs quicker than the 12c...

It will be epic, as will the F150.

A good year for hypercars smile

Does it really matter? 900 bhp is 900 bhp, and I'm 100% certain no one would turn it down NA or not.

The 900BHP hybrid turbo will have a better torque curve.

I like how McLaren go about things (I share a few characteristics with Ron according to my wife!) and I'm genuinely excited about the P1. Everything the modern hyper car should be. Much as I'd rather it was packing a n/a V12 with 900bhp that just isn't reality.

Choice is good.
So you can (if you have the money) buy the car you want.
The world would be a boring place if McLaren, Ferrari, Pagani and the others all used the same sized engines and technology with the same layout and similar designs.
