RE: Jaguar F-Type V6 S: Driven
Discussion
Spotted a black F-type S driving up the A249 this morning, have to say it looks really nice in the flesh. I was suprized how much E-type is apparent in the design- from the pert upturned tail with wraparound lights and raised bulges over the back wheels, to the bulge on the bonnet and big mouth on the front- but without being overtly retro. Nicely proportioned too for a new car without the silly high bonnet line all new models seem to have.

That's a pretty small boot, but that's a small price to pay! Can't wait to hear a V6S at full chat. Maybe I should put my posh suit on and try and persuade a Jag dealer to let me test one.
It's a sports car FFS! If you want a huge boot you don't buy a 2 seater sports car.unrepentant said:

I didn't say it was too small to be practical, I just said it was reasonably small, especially given the exterior dimensions. My last post was countering the assumption that a "sports" car can have no usable boot and still be as tempting a proposition to most buyers.

Porsche blah blah blah. Yawn. Pistonheads is so predictable.
It's clearly a great car. Look on it as an Aston Vantage competitor (in V8S form) and it's stonking value.
Be happy that a British company has built a great car. Lift yourselves above the gloom of austerity and celebrate the fact.
But most of all, stop crapping on about default Porsches.
Looking forward to the manual coupé

It's a brilliant new car and will sell well. We've been waiting for it since 1975. Well done JLR. What a fantastic few years since TATA took over. Brilliant new XJ, fantastic Evoque, utterly incredible new FFRR, great new Sport and now a truly exceptional new Jaguar sports car. And more to come..
It's British and it's great. Be proud, I am.

I don't think it's expensive at all. A base 911 Cab is more expensive here than the V8S, it's slower and way less attractive. As for Aston, you can pay 50% more for a car designed (a long time ago) by the same people with less power or you can trouser the money and buy the brand new F Type.
The looks thing is subjective, you think it's better looking than a 991, I disagree. For me the 911 looks far better resolved, there is too much chintz on the F-type, but again that's subjective. As for the Aston using an old platform so does the Jag, and when it comes to looks the Aston has the Jag beaten hollow.
I appreciate your passion for something you sell? (I'm guessing but you appear to be involved in selling JLR products) but your facts aren't facts they are subjective statements.
The C2S is 90k the V8S 80k so in the same ball park plus you'll always pay more for a brand like Porsche over a Jaguar product, the C2S is a match for the V8 performance wise and in most other objective measures beats it.
I like the F-type and hope it sells well, but it's no game changer.

I love the Astons but I personally don't think they are superior in looks to the Jag or vice versa. I do know a V8 Vantage S has 60 less horsepower, costs 50% more and the nearest dealer is 200 miles away. They're not the competition.
The 911 is a great car, the F Type is a great car. I don't know why everyone gets hung up on the comparisons, there are buyers for both. As for judgements about whether the F type is a game changer or not I would wait until you drive it. The car is frickin awesome. There's room in the market for all the cars and I'm confident that the F Type will hold it's end up perfectly well. I wouldn't be suprised though if we have a few 911's to sell on our used lot next year alongside the Cayenne's we regularly get in trade against Range Rovers.
