Speeding through average speed camera zones - What gives?

I'd love to hear this fella's story - did he even notice he was in a 50 average, or was he just being billy big bks?
Plenty more like that sadly - many people think that they are immune in a rental vehicle. If they were immune, I'd be up in front of wig daily for failing to furnish. We do have a NIP for a diesel Fiesta caught at 116mph somewhere on file. Wasn't sure to be shocked, or quietly impressed.

So basically; all of the drivers you see driving at, for example 70 in the average 50 zone, are getting fines/points?
The permanent section (1 junction) on the M60 catches over 400 a month apparently. I can see why its an average section as its a dangerous blind sweeping bend. I too am frustrated- daily you'll see people nailing it. Are they drunk, don't have a licence or think swapping lanes between cameras 'works'?
Talk about being a gambler.
I was almost sideswipped and my family killed when a truck driver was impatient with me doing 50mph spot-on last year in the average zone. He undertook me at speed then immediately swung right into my lane to 'get me out of the way' so he could continue scything through foolish law abiding drivers.

He'd have been sitting on his 56mph limiter knowing that the cameras would not be triggered at that speed. Not excusing him, but I can see what he's doing...S11Steve said:
I've never found out the story behind this one either... 30mph, Fixed camera - http://www.lincolnshireecho.co.uk/REVEALED-Lincoln...
So the same vehicle got caught speeding 22 times in 10 months?Moominator said:

So why do modern speedometers err on the side of caution?
Is this the same for Merc / Audi style digital screen readouts?
Shirley they should be bang on accurate.
You may be confusing precision and accuracy...Is this the same for Merc / Audi style digital screen readouts?

My Mercs digital speedo could read 50mph, which is precise but clearly may not be accurate...
At the same speed my wife's VW (which has an analogue speedo) is reading around 50, but the width of the needle means it could be anywhere from 48 to 52. Clearly less precise but probably more accurate - in that my wife's speed probably is between 48 and 52.

If he had time to undertake and pull out, it means there was space available to you in Lane 1, so you were MLMing. Not justifying his actions, just an observation.
This is a very good point. I see people in those AC zones just sitting at under 50 in L2 with a queue behind them. Annoys the crap out of me too.Shakermaker said:

Yes, and most at the same camera. I suspect that all the NIPs may have landed at once with the driver - between us as RK, there was at least two other named companies ahead of the driver who will have been named by his employers. We get the NIP within 14 days, and have 28 days to reply, typically we turn them around within 3. Once the police have the reply, they will contact our customer, who again has 28 days to reply, and will name the company or person that was responsible for the vehicle. It's not uncommon for the driver to get the NIP 4-5 months after the event, although the RK has been informed within 14 days. I get a lot of enquiries from drivers asking for confirmation of when we received the NIP, to see if it is valid or not.

In a 50 limit motorway works I honestly don't think lane discipline is paramount - after all if everyone is doing c50 why is there a need to overtake/rush? My situafion- we were approaching a major two lane slip road filter from the left so I felt I was fine to hold middle lane for longer. The truck was driving dangerously.
My thoughts on ANY undertaking = cock.
Your TV dinner in front of the TV can wait 20more seconds and are you in a rush to give an urgent talk on the latest surgery technique?
Or have you made yourself a policeman with powers to punish through yourcown bad driving?

Because everyone's speedo is inaccurate to a different degree. Just as Mr Jones thinks he's doing bang-on 50mph he might be doing 46mph and Mr Smith thinks he's also doing bang-on 50mph, but is really doing 49mph. Mr Smith is going to gain space on Mr Jones fairly quickly - 3mph seems insignificant, but is a decent passing speed on the motorway.Equally, Mrs White might set her cruise control to 53mph based on a Satnav reading and be going even quicker still. And this is without mentioning the Nissan Primera doing 45 in the right-hand lane.
The point is that there is no way to force everyone to do an identical 50mph. The measurements available to the driver aren't accurate enough, and even when they are, many drivers take them as advice rather than gospel.

By the same logic, I guess it would be OK to sit at 70 in L3 because speed limit?

Exactly this. I use long stretches every day and the differentials are significant.

In roadworks you are being artificially slowed for the safety of the work force. So in my mind if everyone is limited to the usual motorway minimum what's the rush? 4mph? Are people that angry and impatient over 4mph?By the same logic, I guess it would be OK to sit at 70 in L3 because speed limit?
Some people should have a word with themselves.
Then you get the gung ho dash down and under then slot in front dangerously into one space crowd. Undertakers should be punished before middle laners. BTW I'm NOT a middle laner. In certain situations I don't see the point of rigid-stazi rule of men who live in coupe 3 series.

"Keep left unless overtaking" is the Highway Code (paraphrased). You're arbitrarily deciding to suspend the Highway Code, even though it's not been ordered by signage, Police etc. Some people should have a word with themselves.
