The 1991 - 1998 Astra F seemed to go from totally ubiquitous to extinct overnight. The youngest ones are 19 years old this year I suppose, but I actually cannot remember the last time I saw one and I don't think they have much of an enthusiast following either. Now they aren't so common as to be ignored there is actually a lot to admire about the design! Several family members had them and aside from eletric shocks on exit and a propensity to steam up really badly they all gave sterling service.
A few on eBay - including a very expensive GSI.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/mk3-astra-gsi-2-0-16v-st...
This thread describes my fleet - an X-reg BMW 318i and a N-reg 525i. They'll probably be the last cars I own that I'm happy working on myself.

E46 3 series BMWs seem to be pretty rare now. Saw a black one yesterday in amazing condition, like new, they will probably start appreciating now because they are getting rarer.
Fingers crossed.I paid decent amount of money for mine last year being one of the best example, low mileage cars I could find. Love it, still look on point and with a decent lump they are a pleasure to drive. Bought originally for some summer roof down fun and after a road trip to Germany with my boy I've really grown attached to it...Possibly more so than my other faster, more expensive performance cars that I've owned.
Finding one that hasn't been modified, looked after or with high miles is hard. I know.
No plans to sell.

I'd say the Mk1 Mondeo has disappeared almost entirely whereas the Mk1 Focus seems to have survived in large numbers... like cockroaches!!
That's because the Mk1 Mondeo is a genraqtion older than the Mk1 Focus Mondeo changed to mk2 in 1996, Mk1 Focus only appeared in 1998 and ran until 2004.
ETA, beaten too it!
So to sumarise this thread, once cars start to get old and out of production they disappear from the roads. Go figure
I also haven't seen any Nokia 6100s recently and no one owns a VCR anymore despite everyone having one at one time...

I saw an M reg, MKI Mondeo 24v SALOON(!) with regulation taped up bumper a couple of hours ago and haven't seen one for ages of any flavour, never mind the V6. The MKIII is starting to get thin on the ground too. Mr Peel said:

original Minis which used to be e erywhere.
Still a lot about but most seem to be garaged for winter. Few are daily hacks any more.Alfa 145s are getting a bit thin on the ground.
The older MPVs are probably all but gone. The box ones, like the original Mitsi Spacewagon, or the Nissan Serena..
Or the Renault Espace (easily renamed if you're not so PC)
Nice to see that, in typical PH fashion, some have come on here to declare (quite seriously, yet specifically) that there aren't any BMW 535i SE Automatics left After all, it's such an everyday car that you'd see the 535i SE Automatic in every car park in a rainbow of colours
Don't rely too much on HML either - the caveat is that it depends on how the logbook was filled out at registration, and there are lots of detail omissions and typos when you go beyond the actual model and into derivatives.

That is very nice - can't remember the last time I saw another 9-3 let alone a Viggen. Here's my 2002 2.0SE which isn't getting a lot of use at the moment:
Yep the Viggen was always rare but like you I was thinking the pre 2003 9-3s in general as I don't really see them much anymore, yours looks very good, cheersJimmy Recard said:
Cars that are very old obviously become rare. It's interesting to note the cars that aren't particularly old but have got rare
And obviously no one has posted that, being typical PHers.PHer 1: 1980's Talbot
PHer 2: Wow omg yesterday they were everywhere what happened?! They simply disappeared!!!

Not only that, but most posters are mourning the passing of cars that were basically s**t! Like those horrible blander than bland 90s Citroens!
Those immensely PRACTICAL workhorses that can carry huge loads or those that go on forever & are good cheep cars for 1st past your test drivers ?unlike those wonderful MAZDA 6's then from 2004..........what a dork

I thought my Chrysler Neon suggestion fitted that description pretty well!
Was the Neon everywhere, though? I've only seen one second-generation model and been in a first-generation model. I have a strange soft spot for the early Neon thanks to Need for Speed Underground.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
